Chapter 104
Dylan’s POV
If there was a conversation I was dreading, it was the one I was going to have in a few minutes when Allie walks through the door…it was inevitable. For me, the relationship started as a way to mess with Ryder but I couldn’t say the same anymore.
Although, a part of me knows that she was never mine in the first place, having seen the way that she looked at him and it was fine…he was one lucky son of a bitch. I could also see the efforts he was putting into talking to her which she ignores most of the time.
The door swung open and Allie entered wearing her signature smile that was bright enough to throw any man off their feet.
“Let me tell you,” She began, “if Kieran changes his mind on letting tag along to this Alphas’ event, I’m going to throw a tantrum p>
I let out a chuckle, easing the tension in my chest. “You’re not supposed to be there in the first place p>
She rolled her eyes, “and you think I don’t know that?” She asked, and I raised my hand in mock surrender. “But I have the perfect outfit to wear while parading the room. I’m going to find the perfect fit for your tux p>
I paused, looking away. “About that, princess p>
“Oh…you have to wear a tie too.” She interrupted excitedly. “I just realized I haven’t seen you in one before. You are going to look so handsome.” She said, placing a kiss on my lips and I felt the words I wanted to tell her stuck in my throat.
“What were you going to say p>
“Uhm…we should probably sit down and talk p>
She squinted her eyes and looked at me, “you’re scaring me p>
Once we were seated, her eyes not leaving mine a sigh escaped my lips. I was just as anxious as she was…maybe even more. There was no easy way to do this.
“I’m leaving.” I blurted, and I felt her freeze before letting out a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. “What are you talking about?” She asked.
As calmly as I could, my gaze not leaving her, I explained how my position hinders me from just leaving my Pack and how my being here already broke a lot of rules, but it was sure worth it.
With me here, I’ve felt more alive, despite what happened. Back home, nobody gave a fuck about anyone. Take for instance, Kaia’s dad didn’t care that his daughter was missing. What was important was him making sure everyone in the Pack respected him because of his newly found position…even though it doesn’t work that way.
My mom never for once asked about her, like she expected it to happen.
“Why can’t you join the Pack? Kieran won’t say no p>
I nodded, “I know that. But even with that, I’ll still have to go back to the Pack.” I told her.
“I’m just going to…clear my head a little.” She said instead, standing up. A blank look rested on her face, not giving away what was going on in her head. I felt my chest tightened like an arrow was shot me. Right there, I just wanted to say fuck it and stay put.
“Allie, come on I started, moving to hold her but she moved away.
“I’m okay.” She assured me. “I just need some time alone.” She told me and even though that was the last thing I wanted to do, I nodded. I’d talk to Kaia to help out.
I watched as she opened the door and left the room. My wolf groaned at her absence, retreating to the back of my mind. A part of me wondered if avoiding the whole drama would’ve been easier to begin with…I could see why Ryder was having a hard time letting go and I didn’t blame him. She was one hell of a girl.
If only the moon goddess was kind.
When I couldn’t stay still, I went in search of her. But my mission was put on a pause when a furious Ryder appeared in front of me, his hand clenched in a fist reaching for my face but I instinctively moved away.
“What the fuck did you do to her?” He growled, swinging his fist again, this time, hitting me on the face.
Fuck! Why does it actually hurt?
There was no need to guess who he was referring to. “I didn’t do anything.” I said, and the glare he was shooting me suggested he didn’t believe me.
“Look,” I started. Apart from having meetings together with Alpha Kieran, and carrying out a mission together, we’ve never had a formal conversation that didn’t involve fists or glares that could send someone back to the moon goddess.
“I’m leaving. I just told her that.” I told him. He probably didn’t intend for me to hear, but a relieved sigh escaped his lips.
“Oh his body relaxed. “You should’ve thought about that before you decided to start something with her p>
I snorted, I was certain he was dancing on the inside. “You know damn well why p>
His gaze met mine, a confused look flashing through his eyes. “What the fuck are you talking about p>
I shook my head slightly, this was a case of a pot calling kettle black. “If you knew you were going to end things with her…no reason at all, then you shouldn’t have started anything with her p>
His confusion quickly changed to that of guilt. “And you know it’s impossible to not fall for her once you know her p>
He went quiet, “I messed up, I know that.” He said after a while. “But if she would give me a chance to just explain, I think I can make it up to her p>
I debated between making him feel bad even more and enjoying his pain. But I understood more than anything what he was going through and he looked like he got the feeling bad part covered on his own.
“You seem like a good guy…but don’t think of getting back with her if you’re going to leave again. She deserves better…better than both of us..” he nodded as I spoke.
“Take care of her,” I said. The words weren’t coming from a place of kindness or understanding that Ryder was sorry. It came from a place of wanting her to be happy even if it wasn’t with me…the thought of it hurt.
I didn’t want to promise her that
leaving my own Pack would be easy,
and as much as I would want to make her mine and take her along, I
didn’t want to take her away from her loved ones, to the Pack that now seems like a nightmare.
secret anymore. If you want to do it…do it right p>
He nodded furiously, “I swear on my life, I’m not going to be the reason she cries
again p>
I didn’t respond…I couldn’t. My heart was hurting and I didn’t trust any word that would come out of my mouth if I tried.
He apologized again and thanked me, but I just nodded and left. That had to be one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make and it better be worth it.
