Chapter 32
Caleb’s POV
My fist clenched as I went over the documents I’d spent sleepless nights on. All of it was turning out to be a waste of time, because the more I dug into it, the farther away from the truth I am.
“Babe, calm down. You’re going to develop wrinkles and I’m not sure that’s what I want to be looking at when I stare at your handsome face.” Dani, my mate said and I let out a sigh.
Moving over to where she was, I wrapped my arms around her and a wave of relief washed over me.
“It’s just that I don’t think I’m close to finding out the truth and Kieran is getting impatient p>
She shook her head, “he knows you’re doing your best, but he just found his mate not quite long and he wants to make sure she’s safe p>
My brows furrowed in confusion, “do you also think it’s connected?” I asked.
Dani was my mate, but she also was smart and now, I really could use a different perspective to what we were dealing with.
“Alpha Kieran has made sure our pack is safe for the members and rogues wouldn’t come here…well, except by mistake p>
I paused, “what are you saying p>
She turned to face me, her hand caressing the side of my face, “it’s just too much coincidence that this is happening not long after she came here p>
“You’re right p>
She scoffed, “of course I’m right p>
I fought back a smile, the pressure I felt some minutes ago was gone.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do without you.” I told her truthfully.
From the moment I knew what mates were, I didn’t want one. Then watching my parents, who were in love with each other get separated because they were not mates, backed my decision up.
My dad died when he couldn’t handle my mom’s leaving to be with her mate. I’d almost rejected Dani when I found her the moment she turned eighteen, but she was so damn stubborn, and wouldn’t even let me get the words out.
But I’m glad she didn’t, I would’ve spent the rest of my life regretting that decision. And I understood why my mom left, decreasing the anger I felt after she left.
“I guess we’ll never find out.” She said, placing a kiss on my lips.
“Damn right we won’t.” I replied, deepening the kiss before she could pull back.
Her hands wrapped around my neck, pulling me closer…I definitely wasn’t complaining. My body pressed against hers.
She let out a groan just as my lips touched her neck where my mark was. She was mine.
“Ours!” My wolf growled in my head. “Yes, ours.” I agreed.
“Fuck! Allie’s mind-linking me.” Dani groaned, “I’ve blocked her p>
I smiled, “that’s my girl p>
“Get down there, would you? It’s been too long.” She grumbled.
My hand trembled with anticipation as I gently grasped her hips and spread her legs. I placed gentle kisses on her thigh and a moan escaped her lips as I continued to work my way upward.
My plan was short-lived when I heard a familiar voice in my head.
“Get your ass down here, or I’m sending someone to get you.” Kieran
commanded, but I just ignored him and focused on the beautiful sight in front of
me. But he wasn’t giving up.
“Get down here, Caleb.” And he was gone.
“I’m going to kill him.” I growled, standing up, much to Dani’s confusion.
She frowned, “What p>
“Kieran wants me to come down p>
“Now? You didn’t think to block him out?” She asked, frustration written on her face.
“I’m sorry.” I apologized, running a hand through my hair.
“Want me to finish up for you? You can’t go there look like that, and I’m feeling a little bit rebellious right now.” She said, looking at the bulge in my pants.
“Fuck yes!” And a pleased smile crossed her face.
“I’m so paying them back p>
With each step I took towards Kieran’s office, a plan on how to get back at him. He might be my Alpha, but at the moment, he was my best friend and would definitely get karma.
Ryder was sitting down opposite Kieran on the couch, a pile of documents sat on the table in between them. An amused look sat in his face when he saw my annoyed expression.
“Is there a particular reason you’re glaring at your Alpha?” Ryder asked.
“You called for me, Alpha.” I said, ignoring Ryder.
“Have you found anything about our rogue?” Kieran asked, already in work mode
even though I’m sure he was having fun watching me suffer.
I took a deep breath, before taking a seat on the couch beside Ryder.
“I don’t think we’re dealing with a rogue…I may be wrong, but whoever this is knows how a pack works and that’s not rogues p>
Their head jerked towards me, confusion written on their faces. “What do you mean?” Kieran asked, a hint of fear in his voice.
I didn’t blame him, he just found her and unlike me who never wanted a mate in the first place, he was the opposite. At a point, I became annoyed with how obsessed he was about finding her and when he finally did, he had to prove that he wanted her, before she even opened up to him.
And now, we have to deal with the possibility that someone was after her but we have no idea who and why.
“Like I said, I’m not sure. But whoever the person is, they probably know something about Luna that we’re overlooking p>
Their confusion deepened. “You think she’s hiding something?” Kieran asked, his eyes darkening. That is definitely King.
“From the look of things, I don’t think the Luna knows either.” I quickly added. “This is just getting complicated.” Ryder groaned, resting his back.
I nodded, and it would only get worse if we didn’t find a way to get to the end of it Kieran slumped against the couch, his hand running through his hair repeatedly. “We’re going to get to the root of it, Alpha. I’m going to have the warriors train even harder and we’ll catch whoever this is.” I assured him.
I know he was feeling helpless, I would be the same too if something or someone ever threatens Dani’s well-being.
“Make sure you get everything that’s going to be useful, I’ll talk to Kaia to see if she can remember anything else.” Kieran said, pushing himself off the couch.
“Yes, Alpha p>
Once he was gone, I went over the documents, but nothing seems to stand out.
“The moment I lay my hands on him, he’s dead.” I thought.
“Do let us get something out of him before you kill him.” Ryder teased, but I glared at him.
“Get a life!” I growled at him, standing up to leave also.
“Don’t make it a habit,” he called behind me. “or you’ll be walking around with blue
balls for a really long time.” He said, laughing.
I fucking knew it!
