Chapter 16
Kaia’s POV
“You have this smile on your face and I’m not even saying anything funny. You’re thinking about Alpha, right?” Dani asked, wiggling her eyebrow suggestively.
“Maybe.” I sang, skipping to the other side of the table to help the children who were failing at their attempt of designing a cookie.
She exclaimed excitedly, “I knew it p>
Ever since the day in Kieran’s office, I found myself wanting more, to be held, touched and just be with him. At first, he was busy with training and then meetings but he was always around for dinner which I appreciated as I’ve always hated eating alone.
Lylah managed to get to me and I started to believe that Kieran was being sincere not playing the long game.
My relationship with Dani and Ryder also became better. I found myself coming out of my shell every day and the smile I thought I’d lost a long time ago was slowly returning.
“Luna, do mine.” Freya said, jumping happily as she pushed her cookies towards
me.
“Of course. How about I show you how to do it instead p>
Nodding eagerly, she came beside me. I saw Bailey looking over at us but retaining her position beside Dani but it was obvious she wanted to see how it was done.
“Come.” I said, inviting her to join us but she just shook her head.
“I’ve never seen a heartbroken five year old.” Dani joked.
“Neither have I, but I guess there’s a first time for everything p>
The other kids were scattered all over the big room trying to create whatever design they had in mind and the others were playing around somewhere.
“Am I getting it, Luna?” Freya asked.
Looking over to her side, I nodded. “It’s perfect.” I assured her and she grinned widely.
As I helped Freya design her cookie, the sweet scent of sugar and chocolate filled the air, making my stomach growl with anticipation.
Scooting over to where Bailey sat, I held her hand and gently tilted her body to face me. “How about we share the Alpha until you find your prince charming p>
“How do you come up with these ideas?” Lylah asked, a hint of amusement in her voice.
Her eyes widened, “Can I really p>
“Of course,” I told her. “We can give him part of your cookies if you want p>
She thought about it for a few minutes before agreeing. Dani snorted, but didn’t say anything.
Once the cookies were done, I helped Dani to clean up despite her insistence against it. Even though we are friends now, she still respects me as Luna.
Kieran and I haven’t spoken about me being introduced to the pack formally. And although I met members of the pack who knew about me, respecting me as Luna, it was a huge step for me which I wasn’t ready for.
“Hmm…I smell something delicious.” Caleb, Dani’s mate, said and a smile appeared on her face.
“I’m baking cookies, Beta Caleb. Luna said it’s perfect.” Freya announced, beaming with pride.
“If Luna says it’s perfect, then it is.” Caleb agreed, turning to acknowledge me.
“It’s me that’s smelling delicious, I can give it a taste if you want.” Dani suggested seductively, and Caleb’s eyes darkened as he pulled her closely and kissed her on the lips.
“Damn right it is.” Caleb muttered. Freya was already distracted doing something else to pay attention to him.
I hid a smile as I tried to finish up while giving them some sort of privacy. The cookies were done, so I had the children sit in a circle and shared it amongst them, setting some apart for Kieran.
“Those better be for me.” I heard Ryder say behind me and I jumped. He was so close and I didn’t hear him walk up to me. “Sorry, Luna p>
“It’s okay. And these are for Kieran but you can have some p>
He accepted them happily, devouring them like he has been starving for a few days.
“Can you finish up please, I’m going to check on Kieran.” I said to Dani.
She nodded, “yes, Luna p>
As I walked down the hallway, my footsteps echoed off the walls. I was headed to Kieran’s office, hoping to catch him before he got busy with something else. Rounding a corner, I collided with a stern-faced Ida.
“Hi p>
Her eyes narrowed, and her lips pursed in disapproval. “Watch where you’re going, Luna,” she spat, her voice dripping with malice.
I stood my ground, meeting her glare with a calm smile. “Ida. I didn’t see you there.” My tone was polite, but firm, trying to not let her get to me.
Ida’s expression twisted in disdain, but she didn’t say anything else. Instead, she brushed past me, her shoulders stiff with hostility. I watched her go, feeling a familiar pang of unease. It was clear that Ida’s opinion of me hadn’t changed since the first day we met.
“You should show her that you’re the Luna. People like her need to be shown their place.” Lylah’s voice rang in my head.
I ran into a few more people, but they all greeted me politely, pushing Ida to the back of my mind.
Kieran raised his head the moment I opened the door and a smile spread across his tired face, causing a frown to appear on my face.
“You should rest, you look tired.” I pointed out, as he pushed himself back before standing up and making his way towards me.
He sighed, “I will, once I’m done with that.” He assured me, pointing to the stark number of documents lying on his desk.
“I brought cookies for you p>
“They smell amazing.” He said, pulling me close and wrapping his hands around my waist.
“He’s definitely not talking about the cookies.” Lylah squealed, dancing happily. But I was too focused on making sure I didn’t throw the cookies away. Good thing
he was holding me, I’m sure my legs would’ve given way if he wasn’t.
There was no getting used to his touch, the sparks I felt whenever his hand brushed against my skin and I didn’t mind it.
As Kieran’s lips brushed against my neck, I felt a shiver run down my spine. His touch was like a spark, igniting a flame that threatened to consume me. I closed my eyes, letting the sensation wash over me, and whispered,
“T-the cookies.” It was a struggle to hold onto them, onto my sanity, as Kieran’s hands caressed my waist.
I heard him fight back a groan as he placed another kiss on my forehead and then on my cheek and lastly, at the corner of my mouth but completely missing my lips.
Resisting the urge to groan, I looked up at him. He was staring at me with so much affection, even though it felt like he was holding back.
“You missed my lips.” I murmured, my voice barely audible.
A strain smile crossed his lips, and he whispered, “I won’t be able to stop once I
go there.” His voice was low and husky, sending shivers down my spine.
“Then don’t.” I heard myself say and all of a sudden, I was lifted off the ground
and placed on the desk. I felt a surge of excitement pass through every part of my
body.
My eyes shut on their own, waiting for his lips on mine but they never came. Instead, Kieran let out a growl in frustration.
“A-are you okay?” I asked, fighting back my disappointment.
“Yea.” He replied, “definitely not. I got a mind link, and I have a surprise for you p>
Any surprise that didn’t include his lips on mine right now, I’m not sure I’m going to like it. But I nodded anyway.
“I’m going to get some milk p>
He nodded, and I was out of the door before he could say anything else. “It wasn’t like he rejected us or anything. Besides, he has a surprise for us.” I thought.
I managed to drag myself to the kitchen while trying to look alive instead of the actual way I was feeling. Nobody said anything, they just greeted me and continued what they were doing.
Filling two glass cups with milk, I turned back towards the office. But as I got closer, I couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was off. So I quickened my
steps.
What I didn’t expect to see when I got there was the sight in front of me.
Kieran’s hands wrapped around another woman. A growl left my lips before I
could stop it.
