Chapter 68
Kaia’s POV
For some reason, I still couldn’t stop thinking about Dylan, if he was okay and how he got into the situation in the first place. But telling Kieran was out of it. I barely survived one day with him being mad at me, I’m sure it’d be worse if it happens again.
Now that Lylah was back, Kieran was taking active steps to finding out what else Lylah could do apart from healing. He didn’t want to assume that all that came up in the records they found was all she could do.
Besides, I haven’t noticed anything else and I haven’t shifted since then either.
“What are you thinking so hard about?” Ryder said, sitting beside me on the couch.
Kieran had gone with the pack doctor to discuss other details that I definitely wasn’t interested in, so I stayed back in his office and so did Ryder.
“Nothing,” came my sharp reply.
“Do you believe that p>
My shoulder slumped as I rested my back against the couch. “I don’t know. No matter how hard I try, I can’t stop thinking about Dylan p>
“I’d rather have the conversation about the blowing.” He said and I turned my head away, hiding the embarrassed look on my face.
“Shut up p>
“But hey, I’m willing to put my life on the line if that will give you all the information you’d need. The Alpha will p>
I threw my hand over his mouth, “shut up.” I repeated, my face a blushing mess.
Once that was over, he looked at me, the playful glint in his eyes disappeared. “You should just let that go.” He started, a frown forming on my face.
“You’ve been here for a while, so whatever you knew about him might have changed…you said it yourself, he wasn’t the nicest person to you even while you were there p>
“But he’s the reason I’m here. What if he hadn’t p>
I shook my head, trying to push away the thought of what the case would’ve been
if Dylan had left me there like everyone else.
“That doesn’t make him a good person p>
They were all saying that, even the girls thought the same thing too but there was no way I could turn a blind eye to him…even if it was just for the fact that he saved me.
“I know you think you owe him that Ryder began again and my head jerked to him. “but the best thing you can do for him is not make the Alpha anymore mad p>
“I don’t think I can do that,” I started, and even Lylah groaned at that. “Even I can’t help you.” She said.
“He’s still my brother, and no part of me thinks he’s responsible for the shooting. The real rogue is out there p>
He paused, “we know that, but he could be a spy. Not to forget, he’s a Beta to your former mate, so he could be a spy. How do you think that makes Alpha feel p>
“Kieran is my mate, the only one I know and that’s all that matters p>
When I saw that nothing I said would change his mind, I let out a groan.
“Can you do me a favor then p>
His brows furrowed, “after the conversation we just had, I don’t think that’s a good idea p>
“It’s nothing bad,” I insisted. “Just make sure he’s fine and give him enough food.” “Are you trying to get me killed for some reason p>
I shrugged, “well, you didn’t tell me what happened with Allie p>
“I’ll do my best, and if the Alpha asks for my head, it was nice serving you, Luna p>
I snorted, just as Kieran re-entered the office with Caleb, who by the way, I still
think hates me. He looked between Ryder and I and then his eyes rested on me and I gave him the biggest smile I could muster.
“He’s definitely thinking about kissing you right now.” Lylah said and I swear, since she came back, she became even hornier.
“It’s called appreciating the moon goddess creation p>
Ryder stood up from my side as Kieran took his place and I leaned into him.
“What did you talk about? You were gone for a while.” I asked.
“He wants you to use your powers on someone else but only when you’re strong enough p>
“Won’t that defeat the purpose of hiding it from the pack members?” I asked, my brows furrowing in confusion. “and I haven’t even shifted again p>
“About that, we’d go for a run later.” He said, and Lylah started dancing in my head once he said that, and I couldn’t help but smile as I nodded.
After a while, I excused myself. They were talking about the shooter and what they have gathered so far and that was the last thing I was interested in. Kissing his lips lightly, I left them to continue their conversation but not before throwing Ryder a look.
The girls were working in the hospital today, so I went to meet them there. But I ran into a familiar face just as I got close to the hospital.
“Luna!” Nessa yelled, running towards me.
“How are you? What are you doing here?” I asked, looking at the Pack’s hospital.
“My friend is here. He got injured during training. I want to say hi to him p>
I nodded, she put her hand in mine, pulling me along with her to the hospital where I met the girls going around trying to get everyone who came in for something to settle down.
“Thank goddess you’re here,” Dani said, “it’s an absolute nightmare in here.” Her eyes snapped to Nessa, “Is she hurt too?” She asked.
Nessa shook her head, “I’m here to see my friend.” She replied, before waving me goodbye and going in search of her friend.
Without wasting any more time, we got to work and I tried not to let Lylah heal anyone. It wasn’t that difficult because the said wolf was still reeling in the fact that she’d be running with King later.
“That was draining!” Allie said, groaning and Dani agreed.
“Sorry guys, I should’ve come earlier.” I apologized.
They just shrugged, “how did the meeting with the doctor go p>
“He’s not so sure because of my background. My parents were definitely not special wolves and I didn’t really know my grandparents but from my parents, I can only assume they were also ordinary p>
“What does that mean?” Allie asked.
“I’m not sure, it probably skipped many generations to get to me.” Or I’m just really lucky…a word that I was finally coming to terms with when talking about myself. “Oh…that must be it.” They agreed, as we started going back to the pack house.
At the moment, I didn’t really care about how it came to be, I was just happy I had a wolf, her ability was a plus that came with getting her late. Lylah’s excitement was also rubbing off on me, and I also wanted to see what she looks like since I didn’t get the chance to do that yet.
“I’m meeting Caleb now, so I’ll see you tomorrow.” Dani announced, waving as she went.
“I’ll go now too, I need to see my mom. I hate how quiet she is…don’t tell Kieran though.” Allie said and I nodded.
And just as I turned to leave, a sudden wave of panic hit but instead of Kieran or King, Lylah screamed out another name.
“Dani p>
