Chapter 83
Chapter 86
Kaia’s POV
My jaw dropped as I stared at Dylan as he led Allie away. I knew it was my suggestion for both of them to ‘pretend’ to be in a relationship but this was on another level. They were acting like there was nothing fake about their
relationship.
Although they did get a reaction from Ryder, who was presently beating his opponent to a pulp.
“I guess you didn’t expect that to happen, huh?” Dani asked. I wanted to be chilled and enjoyed the drama unfolding before me, but I couldn’t. Especially when Kieran returns and wants to know why his Gamma is acting out.
“Definitely not. I thought they’ll just talk and all p>
She snorted, “like that’ll do anything. But you’re right, he’s still in love with her. I really wonder what happened since he hasn’t found his mate.
Before I could give her a response, Ryder made his way towards us, he looked defeated and lost. His knuckles were bleeding from his fight and a part of me regretted even suggesting this in the first place.
“Follow me, I’ll look at that.” I commanded softly and without a word, he did.
“You should stop doing this to yourself.” I told him, as I got started with cleaning his wounds.
He let out a groan, “it’s one of the things that keep me sane these days.” He replied. “She said she likes him…is it really that easy to move on?” He asked, his voice breaking.
He raised his head to meet my gaze, waiting for my response. I swallowed hard, I didn’t want to lie to him, but maybe that was what was best for both of them at this stage.
“It’s just one of those things, you meet someone else, you move on.” I replied, looking away from him. “You can’t control it most times, it just happens p>
A sigh escaped his lips, “then, why can’t I move on? I see her everyday and all I want is her in my arms.” He started, his voice dripping with sincerity and I nearly gave away what was actually happening.
“And no offense to you, Luna, but anytime I see your brother, I want to rip him into pieces.” He continued.
My face scrunched up as the image of that made its way to my brain. “Then, why are you putting both…I mean, yourself through this torture? Tell her, who knows what will happen p>
He stood up, “It’s what is best, for both of us.” He didn’t even sound like he was convinced himself.
I fought the urge to groan, there was no doubt he was hiding something. One minute he says he wants her in his arms and the next, he says it’s what’s best for them.
“Is love always this complicated p>
“I’d like to remind you what you put Kieran through when we first met him.” Lylah said, and I rolled my eyes at her.
“You were waiting to slip that one in, weren’t you? And I’d have you know that it was a totally different situation p>
“If that’s what you want to believe.” She murmured, but I just ignored her.
“Do you really think so?” I asked Ryder, “Then why do you have issues that she’s moving on?” I finished, my brows raised slightly as he thought of the best way to get out of it.
“He’s not right for her.” He said.
I nodded, “even if he’s going to mark her.” His head jerked towards me faster than
I could even blink.
I have a problem guys.
“You really couldn’t help it even if you tried, can you?” Lylah asked, shaking her head at me.
“He’s marking her?” He growled, his wolf slowly emerging forward. “I’m going to kill him p>
“No you won’t,” I said, standing up. “Dani needs me, we need to prepare for the full moon.” I added, running away before he would say anything else.
Dani, who was also done taking care of the victim of Ryder’s rage, stared at me, her brows raised at the look I was wearing.
“I’m going to tell you on the way.” I assured her, pulling her arms as we made our way back to the house.
A look of amusement crossed her eyes when I was done telling her how my conversation with Ryder ended, especially when I told her about the marking part…I made his hatred for Dylan grow even bigger.
“He’s going to have to deal with it.” She said and I couldn’t agree less.
Soon enough, we started preparing for the full moon. Kieran repeatedly sounded
it before he left that we should be careful, but a small gathering wouldn’t hurt. So we were doing exactly that.
Dani suggested having just a few of us sit out and do something fun while we waited for the moon.
“Apart from Nessa, is there anyone else that we should ask to join us?” Dani asked me.
“I doubt Nora and Maria would want to join us, they’d be uncomfortable p>
She nodded, “I agree. And with the drama that is going on with Allie, it’s better they’re not there.” She said, “Can we include more popcorn, I have a feeling we’re going to need it tonight p>
We definitely were going to need them, Allie still wasn’t here which could only mean she was still with Dylan. Hopefully they’re only talking. If not, the popcorn would not be enough.
Once we were done, we sat down to rest. What was left was the full moon to happen. I did wish that it was a different situation and Kieran was around, it would’ve been nice to just lay in his arms and stare at the moon and then run together… Lylah would’ve loved it. But that would happen once this whole thing with the shooter was behind us.
“I don’t think I can ever get used to how beautiful the moon is, my wolf is itching to
go for a run.” Dani said, as we sat outside under the moon.
“I know! I’ll probably go for one with Dylan.” Allie said, looking up at him, a smile on her face.
She sat between his legs and his hand was casually draped around her. Ryder sat opposite them, without saying a word, his eyes trained on them, throwing daggers at Dylan, who pretended like he couldn’t see it.
Nessa took the seat beside me, she focused on eating more than anything…good for her.
“Lylah is gnawing at me to let her out.” I added, and Nessa turned to me.
“I like your wolf’s name, it’s cool. What color is she?” She asked and three pairs of eyes snapped to me. Dylan doesn’t know the color of my wolf, so it wasn’t a big deal to him.
“Lylah is a I started to say, but a wave of uneasiness hit me causing me to pause. I raised my head to see Dani already looking at me, a hand placed over her chest, confirming my thoughts and fears.
When I didn’t continue talking, the others began asking me what happened but I ignored them and focused on reaching Kieran.
He wasn’t in pain, but something was wrong.
“Kieran!” I called, but there was no response and I could tell Dani was also trying to reach Caleb.
“What happened? Did they run into trouble p>
But all of a sudden, the uneasiness was gone and it felt like I only imagined it. Dani didn’t move though, she was staring into space with her hand on her back.
“Are you okay?” I asked her, but a small cry escaped her lips at the same time I felt Kieran try to reach me. I paused to talk to Kieran while Allie rushed to Dani’s side.
“What’s going on, Kieran?” I asked.
His voice came out panicked, “Caleb was hit.” He said and my eyes darted towards Dani, who was becoming unconsolable.
As I watched Dani’s distress, knowing exactly how she was feeling, my mind
raced with several questions, “Just how the hell did they know where they were going to be?” A sense of dread crept over me.
Things just keep getting worse!
