Chapter 22
Chapter 22
Kieran’s POV
Hearing Kaia talk about all the horrible things she went through in her former pack broke my heart, the more she spoke, I felt angry. Not at her, at the fact that I didn’t find her earlier and that her father allowed her to be treated like that.
I’m sure that if I was ever in a room with any of them, they wouldn’t be coming out alive.
But hearing her laughter gave me a sense of relief that at least she was okay and she was getting better.
“I still can’t believe Luna went through all of that! She’s so strong.” Ryder said, snapping me out of my thoughts.
No matter how much I insisted on just staying in the room and not doing anything, Kaia refused. She didn’t want to leave Dani and the others to take care of the kids, so here I am, lost in thoughts and thinking about the different ways things would’ve gone if she’d agreed.
“I’ve narrowed down the packs she’s from to these four.” Caleb said, placing a file in front of me.
I smirked, “this was exactly why he was my Beta.” I thought. “This would take time. Why don’t you run a check on the girl from the mall p>
He nodded, “Yes Alpha p>
Ryder’s eyes darted between both of us, “what are you planning to do?” He asked.
“I’ll get back to you.” Caleb replied, before leaving the office, shutting the door behind him.
“You’re smart, I’m sure you can figure that on your own p>
“Which is why I’m asking. Are you ready to deal with Luna being mad at you?” He asked, “because she’s going to be when she finds out what you’re planning.” He continued before I could ask what he was talking about.
I sighed deeply, he was right.
“We can do it without letting her know. Those bastards need to pay for putting their hands on her. They need to suffer.” King, who has been quiet until now, spoke.
“I agree, but what happens when she finds out p>
The previous day was harder on him, while I had to stay strong for Kaia, he was mad. He struggled to not take over and since we haven’t had time to go on runs as much as we’d like to, it made matters worse.
“But it doesn’t mean we can’t do something else…that doesn’t involve blood shed.” Ryder said, a mischievous smirk playing on his lips.
Together, we went over a list of plans to put in place once Caleb gets back with the information we needed.
After going at it for about an hour, we came up with a list of plans we were satisfied with and we would have continued if King didn’t start moving around because he wanted to see Kaia.
I quickly made my way to where she was, but her back was turned to me, so she didn’t see me come in. I signaled the children to keep quiet as I watched her trying to stop a crying child and my heart swelled with admiration.
“She’s going to make an amazing mom.” I thought, and an image of her round with our pup flashed through my mind.
Taking slow steps towards her and wrapped my hands around her waist. Her body jerked in surprise, only relaxing when she saw that I was the one.
“I’m sorry I started.
“It’s okay, I didn’t hear you behind me. Charlie is recovering from a fever, so he’s a bit fussy.” She explained, referring to the child she was holding.
“With him in your hands, he’ll get better in no time.” I told her and her face turned red.
I love how easy it was to make her blush. It was impossible to get tired of seeing
it.
“Oh!” She exclaimed excitedly, “he’s sleepy already.” She whispered.
“Of course he is. It would be surprising if he isn’t.” She hit my hand like before going to lay him on his bed so he could sleep longer.
My eyes followed her as she went. She couldn’t be any more perfect than she already is.
“You know Allie began, failing at her attempt to sneak up on me. “She’s stronger than she gives herself credit for p>
I nodded, “she’s the strongest person I know.” I told her.
With everything she went through, it was the perfect excuse to never open up to anyone again but here she was, laughing and helping the pack children.
Even though she never said this, I knew that part of the reason why she was committed to them is to make sure they didn’t go through the same thing as her. To provide a support group that they could always rely on.
“Do you know that a lot of parents now drop their kids off too, when they’re busy? She’s good with them, including the parents…she’s going to be a good Luna p>
Kaia returned, wearing a smile before I could respond to Allie.
“The both of you look so serious, what are you talking about?” She asked.
“How I’m going to steal you away from him, since my mate refuses to find me.” Allie replied. But beneath her smile, there was a hint of sadness in her voice.
I knew exactly how she was feeling. Before I found Kaia, being around wolves who’d found their mate was like torture, so I threw myself into work, until the elders suggested picking a chosen mate, then I traveled to several packs trying to find her.
“I’m sure he’ll find you soon and he’s eagerly waiting for that day as well. But in the meantime, I know the perfect person to take your mind off things.” Kaia said, winking suggestively, making Allie’s eyes widen, her eyes darting between Kaia and I.
“What is going on?” I asked, raising an eyebrow at Kaia’s mischievous grin. “What is going on where?” She asked, looking everywhere else but at me.
I frowned, my brows furrowing in concern, “answer me.” I demanded.
“I’m talking about Freya,” Kaia said. “She’s such a sweetheart. And her birthday is coming soon, so we’re planning to surprise her p>
I didn’t buy it for one second, but she didn’t give me a chance to respond. “I’ll see you later.” She kissed my lips quickly but I pulled her back, deepening the kiss.
“We have kids here and I would hate to have the conversation of what is going on right now.” Allie said.
Kaia pulled away, wearing a shy smile and I resisted the urge to groan. “This is your fault.” She said, before pulling Allie away, leaving me standing there, and licking my lips that still tasted like her.
Fuck! She was addictive!
