Chapter 94
Kaia’s POV
I woke up with warm arms wrapped around me. Lylah purred softly as I leaned more into him, the warmth radiating from his body sent my body into a state of frenzy. There was no getting used to his touch…to the way I feel whenever he was close. My body had a mind of their own, as they melted, enjoying every second.
Turning my body to face him, I was met with his eyes already staring at me with so much intensity and he offered me a smile once our gaze met.
“Hey,” I whispered, my voice barely above a whisper.
“Hey,” he repeated, matching my tone. “I love how your body responds to my touch.” He murmured, pulling me closer and I let him.
No words needed to be said again as I enjoyed the cuddling. Who knows how soon moments like this would happen again without him having to respond to one urgent mindlink or something else.
Soon, I found myself dozing and the sleep was very much welcome.
The next time I opened my eyes, I was alone on the bed, but sound of water running in the bathroom could be heard. Not wasting time, I ripped off my clothes and made my way to the bathroom and into the shower, joining him as the warm water glide down my skin.
“Didn’t want to wake you.” He said, a pang of guilt flashing through his eyes before I could accuse him. “We caught some of the shooters early this morning, I was going to get information out of them p>
“I’ll just shower later, then.” I murmured, pouting my lips as a look of horror settled on his face.
“Fuck no!” He groaned, grabbing my hand and pulling me, my breast lying against his naked body. “They can fucking wait.” He said, another groan escaping his lips as he placed gentle kisses on my neck, his fondling my breast, as a soft moan escaped my lips.
Needless to say, we spent more than an hour getting ready but at the end of it we were both happy and relieved, like a tension we didn’t know was building up was suddenly gone.
Kieran couldn’t wait to have breakfast, as Caleb mind-linked him that they were ready to get started. He kissed my lips before leaving.
I made my way to the hospital where we would be working for a few hours before going back to the child’s care. And a frown made its way to my face when my eyes landed on Nessa who was bent over, watching what Dani was doing.
“Nessa, why are you here?” I questioned, all of them looking up at the sound of my voice.
“I’m sorry, Luna. I didn’t want to be the only one there she started, “with the three of you here, I won’t have anyone to talk to. And I thought it was okay since we’re only here for a few hours p>
“I’m sorry, Luna. We should’ve asked you.” Dani said.
I sighed deeply, “it’s okay.” I replied.
While I loved that she was eager to learn and help, she was still young to be around so much blood. She should at least wait until she gets her wolf. Having done all of this from a young age, it broke something in me and I didn’t want the same thing to happen to her.
“There’s nothing much to do, we can just leave now.” Allie said through our mindlink and I agreed.
The four of us walked back to the child care and I stayed beside Allie. And unlike her chatty and bubbly self, she was quiet. I wasn’t sure I like this version of her, where she bottled everything in. And I knew no doubt that it had something to do with her parents.
I held her hand, taking her to the side as Dani and Nessa went into the child care.
“Is something wrong?” She asked, furrowing her brows.
I shook my head, “I should be asking you that. Why didn’t you say anything p>
There was no use pretending to be clueless about it. I was surprised her parents hadn’t mentioned it…except that wasn’t what made her all gloomy.
Her confusion deepened, “say what p>
“I spoke to Ryder yesterday, he told me about your parents. Why didn’t you tell me…or even your brother?” I asked.
The look on her face softened, “I wanted to handle it myself. With the whole thing going on, who I mate with is the last thing I want Kieran to worry about p>
She was saying one thing, her eyes was saying something else. “Ryder shouldn’t have bothered you.” She said, pausing.
Her eyes roamed everywhere as she continued. “Did he say anything else?” She asked, but I ignored it. That was not my place to say and they needed to talk without me inferring.
“You underestimate the things Kieran would do for you.” I told her, the murderous look in Kieran’s eyes when I told him and the way he stormed out without waiting to hear the rest of what I had to say crossed my mind.
“What do you mean p>
“I mean that you don’t have to mate with Alpha Declan because your parents said so I told her. “By the way, I heard he’s old p>
She nodded, and without giving me the chance to react to that, she threw her hands around me, hugging me tightly. “Thank you, Kaia.” She murmured, her voice breaking.
“I was worried they would force me to mate him, even my dad was in support.” She cried, and I felt my heart breaking on her behalf, that she had to carry that all alone.
“Kieran sort of threatened them.” I told her after a while when she had calmed down.
She pulled away, raising an eyebrow. “Sort of p>
I laughed, “totally, he totally did.” I replied.
“And it had to be the hottest thing, apart from this morning.” Lylah, who had been
quiet until now, added and my face turned a bright shade of pink.
“You have to tell me what she said.” Allie said.
“Uhmm…I’ll pass on that p>
She snorted, “what is this? Twenty questions p>
The Allie I was used to had returned.
And knowing how much she loved her Dad, it must’ve broken her heart when he didn’t take her side, especially when her parents were each other’s mate and they knew the bliss that came with it and yet, they still wanted her to mate with
someone who wasn’t her mate.
We walked hand in hand to join Dani, who I’m sure would be wondering what was
going on.
The rest of the day passed by quickly, as we played around with the kids. We even had to explain to Freya and Bailey why they haven’t found their mate yet…they were in sucha
hurry but it was cute, hearing them go on about what they wanted in their mate.
By the time we finally called it a day, earlier than we would usually leave, I was already exhausted. So concluding that I’d have Maria bring dinner to the room, I went there instead of Kieran’s office. He wasn’t
even there to begin with, he was busy with the shooter’s case.
What I didn’t expect when I opened the door to the room, was how messy it was
and a shocked Maria staring back at me.
Just what the fuck was she doing?
