Chapter 18
Kaia’s POV
Instead of Kieran, Ryder was the one driving us to the mall. We couldn’t go the previous day because he insisted that it was getting late and with the recent report of rogues attacking people, he didn’t want to risk it.
“We should get a pedicure and probably a spa treatment first.” Allie suggested. She sat in the front seat with Ryder while Dani and I stayed at the back.
“And then we can go lingerie shopping. I want to give Caleb a few surp p>
Ryder’s head jerked back, his eyes wide with shock and embarrassment, “can you keep that information to yourself, I definitely didn’t need to hear that.” He said before turning back to face the road.
Dani rolled her eyes, “no one asked you to listen.” She replied.
“It’ll give you an idea of what to do when you finally find your mate.” I added and Allie’s head snapped to him so fast, I was afraid she’d get whiplashed.
He groaned, his eyes flicking to look at me in the rearview mirror. “Come on, don’t join them Luna.” His voice was light. And I bite back a laugh.
“Don’t listen to them, you can just do something else while we’re in there.” Allie said, and Dani cleared her throat loudly.
“Let’s just go.” Allie murmured, looking outside the window.
Yea, she definitely still has a crush on him.
Apart from the sound of the tires on the tarred road, no other sound could be heard as we fell into a comfortable silence.
Just like the last time we came to the mall, I was excited but this time for something entirely different. The girls had successfully put thoughts in my head and I was looking forward to Kieran’s facial expressions when I showed him whatever I would be getting.
“He’s going to like it. Hopefully he’ll be taking them off Lylah started.
I blocked her.
“Let’s start over here.” Allie said, leading us into one of the shops. Ryder gave an excuse about parking the car properly and left.
As the three of us stepped into the salon, the bell above the door jingled, and the smell of nail polish hit me the moment we entered. There were some people also getting their nails done. Most of them were humans and a few wolves.
“Welcome, what can we do for you today?” One of the attendants asked, wearing a warm welcoming smile.
“We’re going to get both pedicures and manicures.” Allie replied.
“Right this way, someone will be with you shortly.” She said. She led us to the empty chairs that were beside one another.
Less than three minutes later, three girls, definitely werewolves, came to us. They recognized Allie and greeted her. I guessed they were members of the pack.
They got to work, soaking our feet in a warm bath. She then carefully trimmed and shaped my nails, making sure they were even and neat. After that, she gave my hands and feet a gentle massage, rubbing in some kind of lotion that left my skin feeling soft and smooth. As she worked, I felt my muscles relax and my tension melt away. We had our nails painted and I chose red because it looked good on my skin.
For the facial treatment, we were taken to another room, more quiet and peaceful. We were given a different cloth to wear…more like to tie around us and then we were asked to lie down on a bed.
Since I had no idea what they were doing, I just relaxed and soon, I was drifting off to sleep.
“Wake up.” I heard Dani say tapping my arm softly, jolting me awake.
“First, you look amazing, Luna. But how did you sleep through that? No matter how many times I do it, I never fall asleep.” Allie said pouting playfully.
“This is my first time getting a facial treatment.” I said casually as I changed into my original clothes.
I ignored the way both of them looked at each other, obvious they had questions but were not sure how to ask. It was almost funny.
“It’s not that much of a big deal…now.” I started, “I didn’t have friends.” I finished, leaving out the fact that even if I did have friends, my dad wasn’t going to pay for me and I wasn’t earning anything since there was a lot to do at the pack house.
“Trust me, it’s their loss.” Dani said.
Allie agreed, nodding her head softly, “I’ve known for less than a day and I can tell we’re going to be best friends. And not because you’re mated to my brother p>
My tears teared up, “thank you.” My voice was barely above a whisper.
“Please don’t cry, my brother will not hesitate to send me back to the city if he hears I made you cry.” This brought a smile to my face and even Dani, who agreed that they didn’t want to see Kieran angry.
My face was glowing and I honestly felt lighter and confident. The girls had a proud smile.
“That’s how you respond to beauty.” Dani said, nodding her head in approval.
After paying the bills, we made our way outside where we met Ryder chatting and laughing with two girls who were clearly smittened with him. He was laughing at whatever they said. My eyes met Allie’s, who was wearing a frown, almost glaring at the three of them.
“I’ll get him.” I offered, but there was no response.
A crazy idea struck me as I went towards him. So, it might not be the best, but it’ll work.
“I’m not sure I like this.” Lylah said.
“It’s not going to hurt him. And we’re helping a ‘friend’ out p>
Friend…another word I never knew would ever be associated with me. It was always me against everyone else. Nobody wanted to be associated with me for fear of getting the same treatment. But now I have more than enough people who care about me.
“What’s the point if they’re not mates p>
I thought about it for a moment, “it doesn’t mean she can’t have a crush on him. She’ll probably get over him once she finds her mate p>
Lylah snorted, just as I approached the trio. Ryder’s eyes widened when he noticed me, standing up.
“You said you wanted to look around while I got my nails done and I find you with them?” Ryder’s eyes looked ready to pop out of their sockets, and the girls eyes darted between Ryder and I. “You promised you were going to change, I don’t know why I believe you p>
“We didn’t know he was taken, we’re sorry.” They apologized, and I nearly broke out of character because of how scared they looked. They were definitely humans.
Ryder’s jaws were almost touching the floor, “w-what was that, Luna?” he sputtered, “the Alpha’s going to kill me p>
“He’s not, and we’re done here.”I replied, laughing at the scared look on his face.
“What did you say to him? He looks like you just threatened to…did you threaten him?” Dani asked.
I shook my head, “of course not. Why would I do that p>
“Luna, you should stop hanging out with her, she’s a bad influence p>
I shrugged, just as Dani rolled her eyes. Allie hasn’t said anything, instead, she followed quietly beside us. I didn’t miss how Ryder stole some glances at her. Allie was soon back to her normal self when we got to the store that sold lingerie. “I’m going to stay away…far away. Mindlink me when you’re done.” Ryder said. We nodded absentminded as the attendant welcomed us into the boutique.
