Chapter 124
Kaia’s POV
“I won’t be gone for long, I promise.” Kieran said, as he hugged me tightly. His head resting in the nook of my neck.
“Can’t you just command her to come here…to the borders?” I asked, I’m not sure I wanted to see her again anytime soon.
Kieran was going to my Pack, a place that was filled with painful memories I’d rather not live again. And imagine my shock when he told me my stepmom was a healer too. The moon goddess was out there sprinkling a dust of confusion on the world. She wasn’t a white wolf but she had the powers of one and as much as I was curious, I’d wait until Kieran returns.
“For that to happen, I’d have to see her.” He reminded me.
“I’m going to miss you, come back soon.” I told him, tightening my arms around him. “I love you, baby p>
He pulled back, lifting my chin to look at him before his lips came on mine. I fought back a moan as I kissed him back like my life depended on it.
We finally joined the guys, who were waiting to see him off. They were not going with him because he assigned their own jobs to them, so he was going with some warriors.
“Bye!” I waved, as the car drove off.
“He can’t see you anymore.” Dylan whispered when I didn’t stop waving even after they were gone. But with a glare, he kept his mouth shut.
Caleb and Ryder, who were standing a few feet from us, said their goodbyes and left to go get started on their own work. It wasn’t going to be easy tailing a Lycan who was sensitive to smell and even worse, one that had something to hide. And my best bet was Luna Clarissa but only because I didn’t like her.
“What’s up with Ryder? Is there no progress?” Dylan asked.
I raised my brows at him, “are you asking because now that you’re here for a long time, you realize you shouldn’t have let go of her p>
“I’m asking because she isn’t here to see her brother off and Ryder looks miserable.” He said, rolling his eyes.
I sighed, “right now, they’re both refusing to talk about it.” I told him and she has also been avoiding me. At first, I thought it was because she felt guilty, so I assured her that she had nothing to be guilty about, but that wasn’t the case.
“Have you tried talking to her p>
“No, I was giving her space…but it seems to be doing more harm than good. I should probably do that now p>
He nodded, and began following me as I made my way to her room. “What the hell are you doing p>
“Keeping my eyes on you.” He replied, shrugging like it was no big deal.
“I’m going to Allie’s room, not fighting off rogues.” I deadpanned, “Find something else to do, I’ll be fine p>
He wanted to argue but he changed his mind. Once I was satisfied, I continued to Allie’s room and she opened the door immediately, looking everywhere but at me.
“Did I do something wrong? I’m sorry.” I apologized, and her face scrunched up in confusion. “What are you talking about p>
I took a deep breath, “you’ve been avoiding me…us, since the meeting and you don’t look so good. So it’s either I did something or p>
“You didn’t do anything she interrupted, “it’s just she paused, looking at the ceiling. Something she did when she was fighting back tears and just the thought broke my heart. No matter how many times I assure her that it was okay to talk to me no matter what, she still keeps things to herself despite how much it was hurting.
“Allie,” I called softly, wrapping my arms around her shoulder in a comforting manner. “You can talk to me p>
She swallowed hard, “I found my mate…I rejected him.” She added before I could ask her why she was sad then.
“I’m so sorry, Allie p>
She shook her head, “Don’t be. He’s an asshole p>
I frowned, if she just met him, how did she come to that conclusion? “How…no, what did p>
“Aiden…he was my mate.” She said, “he d-didn’t even feel bad.” The moon goddess was playing a cruel joke on all of us. But Allie didn’t deserve it, she was the sweetest person.
“Is that why you’re ignoring me? Because Aiden was your mate p>
She shook her head again, “I wasn’t p>
Then she explained the situation with Ryder, how she was already planning to give him a chance but now to him, it feels like she was giving him a chance because she was trying to hide her pain and pretend it never happened.
“Then talk to him,” I advised her. “That boy would literally do anything for you. I’m sure he’s holding himself back from going over to that Pack and snapping his neck p>
She cracked a smile before hugging me. “I can’t wait for them to be finally together.” Lylah said, and I couldn’t agree more. At this point, I think everybody
was.
The talk did more than magic as she took a shower and even put on some makeup, Ryder was going to have a heart attack when he saw her.
“It’s good to see you looking like a human being.” Dylan teased her, and she punched his arm lightly and being his dramatic self, he doubled over. Yea…they’ll be fine.
The three of us went towards the childcare, I’m sure Dani was having a hard time handling both the kids and Nessa, who still thinks we were in thedark. The fact that I played dumb and the picture I found in her adoptive parents house put her at ease.
“Here we go.” I thought, as Dylan pushed the door open.
“Thank goodness you’re here, I’m so close to clawing her neck if she asks me one more question.” Dani said through our mindlink.
“I can’t wait for all of this to be over and she’s out of our life for good.” I replied.
Nessa’s smile widened when she saw me…I wonder how she is able to fake being this way for so long when I was trying to keep myself from slamming her head against a wall.
“Luna,” She started, “I was thinking we could go to the city since the Alpha isn’t around.” She said and I raised my eyebrow.
“I’m sorry, it slipped when I was talking to her.” Dani apologized, through the mindlink and I sighed.
“I don’t think so, maybe another time p>
She pouted, “I was hoping to go today. I have a date…this really cute guy asked me out and I wanted to look good.” She insisted.
Dylan’s gaze met mine, “don’t even think about it.” He said, and I snorted. “as if I would…maybe before we found out her real intention p>
“I’m sure we can find something among your clothes that is fit for your date.” Her smile dropped immediately. “I guess I’ll go find something.” She murmured, before running out of the room.
“My brother better come back with a solution to this problem before I run crazy.” Allie said.
Nessa was quickly forgotten as we focused on the kids who were so eager to play. And very soon, my pup was going to be playing with them too…I couldn’t
wait.
“They’re planning to take action.” Dylan said suddenly, and three pairs of eyes snapped towards him. And without waiting for us to ask what he was talking about, he continued.
“Going to the mall would make us keep our guards down…which is the perfect way for them to attack and they easily get away.” He explained. “But-isn’t am I a target? I didn’t even know her until a few months ago p>
Lylah stirred uncomfortably within me, “the easiest way to get our mate is through
us, which would in turn get his parents p>
“We’re going to keep you safe and make sure nothing happens to you.” Dani
assured me and I couldn’t be more grateful for the gift of them.
Kieran called me when he arrived there. And when he asked if I was okay, I told him that I was. Having him rush back here where we were so close to getting a solution was the last thing I wanted to do.
“I’m going to meet her now…it shouldn’t take long.” He said.
It better not take long, I want him by my side.
After lunch, I decided I wanted to take a nap, so saying goodbye to the girls and the promise to come out when I’ve had enough rest, I followed Dylan who walked beside me, deep in thought.
“I’m going to be right here if you need anything.” He said and as much as I wanted
to argue, I didn’t and just nodded, closing the door behind me.
But as soon as my eyes landed on the box on the bed, I knew I wasn’t getting any
sleep.
