Kieran’s POV
I watched as Kaia left the room, a smile on my face. Before I found her, several thoughts went up in my head about how I was going to react when I found her. Would I be angry, betrayed or sad that she doesn’t trust me enough? But none of that happened, instead, a wave of relief hit me once I laid my eyes on her.
And everyday, she didn’t fail to surprise me. It doesn’t matter what she does. “Alpha Caleb called, taking my attention away from the door.

“Concerning the person who shot you, we didn’t find anything reasonable.” He said, “is there something else we can use p>
I shook my head, trying to recall every detail that could be of help, but apart from the suspicious movement, nothing else stood out to me as that wasn’t the priority at the moment.
“It was like he was never there.” Ryder added.
He had been the first person to get to the scene and searched everywhere thoroughly, but nothing came up. Caleb, being the second in command, had also felt that something was wrong with me and came running.
They were relieved to see I was fine and more confused when I told them what had happened, the fact that Kaia might be a wolf.

I shook my head again, “it wasn’t wolfsbane and…it works fast I told them, remembering how within a few minutes of being shot, King had disappeared. “I remember a weird smell like something rottenning p>
They frowned, “What could that be? I don’t think I’ve heard about anything like that.” Caleb said.
“Neither have I.” Ryder agreed.
“I’ll look for more information on the substance used, maybe we’ll get something useful.” Caleb said after a while.
“Do you think he’s the same person we’ve been chasing all this while p>
“I doubt it, there’s a difference between there.” I replied.
They both paused, their heads darting to me, waiting for me to clarify what I meant. And it wasn’t like I was certain about it either because as much as I was looking forward to locking them up, I didn’t want to make deadly assumptions that would cost us.
Besides, I realize how quick we are to assume they might be connected… narrowing our search range.
“Apart from the lack of smell from this one,” I started, pointing to the first person that didn’t seem to be moving forward. “Is there anything that stands out about him p>
Caleb massaged his temple, “we crossed out the fact that he might not be an actual rogue p>
I nodded, he was calculative, he knew exactly what he was doing.
“Is there a chance that this might be a plot from the Elders?” Ryder asked.
He has a point, “I wouldn’t put it past them p>
Since the day I ran out of their so-called meeting, I’d refused to pay attention to their threats which was a lot, they’ve been really quiet, which means they were up to no good.
“Do some more digging on the elders, especially those involved with the organized group p>
“Yes Alpha, and they call themselves ‘The Axe’ for whatever reason.” Caleb said,
a clear disgust in his voice.
I scoffed, the name was just as dumb as they are.
He left to go get started on it and I turned to Ryder. “Keep an eye out, just in case anything new comes up p>
He nodded, “Yes Alpha.” And was gone.
I went over the report Caleb had given me, to see if something new was going to stand out, even though we had gone over them a few times.
“Did you notice anything unusual while we were in the forest?” I asked King, who was still brooding over Lylah’s absence.
He paused, “there was a smell,” he started.
“A smell?” I repeated.
“But the main question we should be answering is if we were the target or we just happened to be there p>
A loud groan escaped my lips, that was another way of looking at it.
When I couldn’t come up with a definite answer, I mind-linked Caleb to get his opinion, but the result was the same thing.
If I was the main target, it doesn’t come as a shock. But something about the timing didn’t sit well with me. There was no way they could’ve known exactly where I was except they followed me or were already waiting for me.
“Ryder I called through the mindlink, “I have a feeling they might be back soon, make sure security is tight enough p>
“Copy, Alpha. Why do you think they’ll be back though?” He asked.
I knew for a fact that whatever was used on me was meant to kill me…assuming I was the target, but once the news reaches them that I was alive, they’ll want to finish up what they started.
Pushing away the document, I stood up from my desk and left the office. I met Kaia reading a book and she ate, laughing over something she found funny. And compared to when I first found her, she looked less stressed.
“Bella p>
“You’re mean.” She said, still smiling.
“Come on, it wasn’t that obvious. I doubt they noticed it p>
“They were definitely holding back a smile!” She said, “And you had a proud look on your face.” She accused me.
She wasn’t wrong, my smell was all over her when she came to my office earlier and the fact that she was also turned on could be smelled from miles away. If I hadn’t wanted her to rest after last night, I would’ve taken her right there on my desk.
An image of her sprawled on my desk, moaning my name while being ready for me crossed my mind and a smirk appeared on my lips.
“See she started, pointing at me, “you’re thinking about it. Was it that bad?” She asked, blushing furiously.
I shook my head, sitting beside her and taking her hands in mine. “They’re not ignorant, and you’re my mate p>
“That doesn’t help. Now, they’ll think I’m she trailed off, her face a bright shade of pink.
Fuck! She has to be the moon goddess’ favorite, “how did I get so lucky p>
“Caleb has a mate and Ryder definitely has someone p>
Her eyes widened when I said that before they changed to a surprise look. “He
does?” Her voice became high pitched, “I would never have guessed p>
She clearly knew something, her whole expression giving it away.
An amused look appeared on my face, “Bella p>
“Do you know who she is? Do you think he’s going to introduce her to us? I can’t
wait to meet her.” She rushed out.
My brows raise slightly, not buying anything she was saying.

She shook her head, “I don’t know what you’re talking about. You should be happy
for him that he’s happy. And he’s close to you, why do you think I’d know something you don’t p>
I snorted, that might be true before I found her as my mate. But the two of them
had become so close that left some pack members confused.
“Do you want to join me?” She asked, pushing her breakfast to me, her poor attempt of changing the subject.
My hands dropped to her side, a playful grin on my lips. “You wouldn’t p>
She burst into giggles as I began to tickle her until I felt someone trying to mindlink me.
