Chapter 53
Chapter 55
Allie’s POV
Everything seems to be going wrong at once. First, it was Ryder avoiding me like a plague. Things were going well but all of a sudden, it felt like it was all in my imagination and they never happened.
And when he finally came to himself, I thought, ‘this is it, we were going to get back together, but out of nowhere, he said he wanted to end things.
FLASHBACK
“How are things with you and your lover boy?” Dani asked, wiggling her eyebrow suggestively.
We had just finished making rounds at the hospital. It wasn’t a lot of work for me since most of the guys wanted to get treated by Kaia. She didn’t know it yet, but there was something special about her.
I shrugged, “I’ve barely seen him, it feels like he’s avoiding me.” I told them, trying to play it off like it was nothing.
Kaia snorted, “that’s not possible, Ryder cares about you too much and we can all see it.” She said.
“Except him,” I thought, because nothing about his actions shows me that he did.
“He’s just busy, Kieran and Caleb are the same too. So try not to overthink it.” She advised me.
I wanted to believe her, I wanted to cling onto that ray of hope that it was just because he was busy even though that has never been a problem before. So, a huge part of me knew that that wasn’t the case.
“She’s right,” Dani started, “you have nothing to worry about.” and I offered her a small smile.
Once we were done, I went to meet my mom, who by the way was still mad at my brother for picking Kaia over her. And she deserves it. I wasn’t there, but from what I heard, it was bad.
“You took your time coming.” She said, crossing her legs and folding her hand in front of her.
“There were a lot of people at the hospital.” I lied, sitting opposite her.
“So, you were with that girl!” She spat, her eyes throwing daggers at me but I just shrugged. This has become her normal expression because nothing was ever right by her except it was done by her method.
“Mom, she’s my friend and her name is Kaia p>
“She’s already influencing you to talk back to your mother like she did to your brother p>
I sighed, tired of having this conversation. “Kaia didn’t do anything, you don’t like her because of her rank.” I replied.
“People like her don’t deserve a place in a family like ours! But she has brainwashed both of you p>
Rhea was growing in my head, disliking the way that my mom was talking about Kaia. Maybe the fact that she was my brother’s mate was the reason we felt the need to protect her or because it was just hard not to.
“I’m going to leave if that’s all. I need to sleep.” I told her, standing up.
She paused, “You still haven’t found your mate?” She asked.
I froze, not expecting her to bring it up. It was a topic I hated talking about… especially with her.
“No mom p>
“The Alpha of Blackwood lost his mate,” she started, and I scoffed knowing where this was headed. “You should meet him. You will give birth to strong pups.
My eyebrows raised slightly, “Isn’t he like thirty five p>
“And you are an adult. Who cares about his age p>
I took several deep breaths to calm myself, not trusting the words that would come out of my mouth if I didn’t.
“Goodbye mother p>
As I left, I heard her murmur something about how I may never find my mate and this was my only chance at love.
Once I was in my room, I prepared a bath for myself, then slowly undressed while thinking about Ryder, his hand against my skin, how he would murmur with his lips on my neck about how impatient I was anytime I complained about how he loved to tease me.
His soft voice when he calls me princess.
“Fuck!” A soft moan left my lips. I missed everything about him, his smile when I spoke, how he paid attention to every detail when it came to me and the shivers I felt when he touched me, and the warmth being in his arms provided.
A light knock on my door jerked me back to reality…damn werewolf hearing!
“But who could that be?” I wondered, I don’t really get visitors except Ryder.
My lips curved into a smile, just the person I wanted to see. I quickly put on a robe and opened the door. But my smile dropped when I saw the expression on his face.
“Hey.” I called softly.
He nodded, “can I come in p>
I moved out of the way to let him in. This was a clear sign that something was wrong. Normally, he would be pulling me in for a hug and he wouldn’t ask for permission before coming in.
“Are you okay?” I started, “you’ve been p>
He interrupted me, “Let’s end this…whatever this is.” He said, and I heard my heart breaking into a million pieces.
A look of horror crept over my face, “w-what do you mean?” I stammered, my voice breaking.
“This shouldn’t have happened in the first place p>
“You don’t mean that.” I cried, reaching out to touch his hand but he moved back, away from my touch.
His eyes were void of any emotion, he wouldn’t even look at me. “Come on, Ry. Look at me.” I said. “We were fine, where’s this from p>
He sighed, finally meeting my gaze and for a split second, his eyes softened but it was gone almost immediately. “This isn’t about you, it’s something I should have done earlier p>
I could barely feel anything at this point. I’d rather he avoided me than end things. This was going to end anyway but it was going easier when we found our mate.
“He didn’t…did he?” I thought, pushing away the thought of that happening. “Did you find your mate?” I asked, dreading what his answer would be. His expression falters once more.
“I didn’t.” He ran a hand through his hair, confirming my fears that he was hiding something, but what?
Realization dawned on me, but he wasn’t the type of person to do that…but I still went ahead to ask.
“Did you find someone else?” My voice was barely audible. His eyes jerked to mine again, an annoyed look on his face like he couldn’t believe I would think that.
I didn’t know what else to think.
“Fuck no! Prince…Allie.” He said. “I’m sorry it got to this point, it’s better to just end it now p>
He didn’t say anything else or wait for my response as he left, leaving me shattered.
END OF FLASHBACK
And now, Kaia was nowhere to be found. Everyone was looking for her. Kieran was on the verge of going crazy. His Lycan was in so much pain, it was hard to watch.
She’d been gone for two days and for someone who couldn’t shift, she was fast. Trained warriors couldn’t trace her smell anywhere.
Although I understood Kaia, she must’ve struggled with trying to get in the good graces of the pack members.
I paced around in Kieran’s office, tired of crying. Dani was trying to act strong but
it was obvious she was torn just as much.
“Do you think she’s okay?” Dani asked.
“She is,” I replied, “she better be p>
I hated seeing Kieran so broken, and she was the only one who could get him
back on his feet, so she better be okay.
