Chapter 52
Kieran’s POV
“What’s this about?” I asked my Beta. I was unable to focus on anything that wasn’t related to Kaia. The faraway look in her eyes was haunting me. Once I sorted this out, things would get better.
“Laura got some of the pack members to start a protest demanding that Kaia shouldn’t be made Luna.” He said.
My fist clenched, this was going out of hand and quickly. This was exactly what the Elders were aiming at, but I wouldn’t give them the satisfaction they were looking for.
“Where’s Ryder?” I asked.
“Uhm…He has been spending all his time taking shifts at the Pack’s borders p>
My brows furrowed, “He’s still doing that?” I asked again and Caleb nodded. “The girl he’s seeing probably ended things with him and that’s how he’s coping with the grief p>
“Tell him to do that on his own fucking time, we have work to do.” I commanded.
I had given him more than enough time to get back on his feet but instead, he was sinking deep into whatever was eating him. He wasn’t saying anything but it was obvious something was wrong with him.
“Yes Alpha, but what are we going to do about this? If more members join this protest, it’ll give the elders more leverage on us p>
I sighed deeply, “hold a pack meeting for an hour’s time p>
He bowed his head as he left. My lack of sleep was taking a toll on me, and it would be worse if I was human. King was restless, but nowadays, that was everytime we were away from Kaia.
Half an hour later, Caleb strode into the office, his expression grim, holding another set of papers. It wouldn’t take time before I ran out of space.
“You need to see this.” He said, walking over to my side, spreading the papers he was holding on the table.
“Remember that man at the Mall?” He asked, waiting for me to respond. I nodded. “I kept digging into it but at first, nothing came up, then later I found several others with the same thing. No smell but clearly wolves p>
I nodded, this was also important but at the moment I wondered why he thought I needed to see it. When he saw the expression on my face, he cleared his throat and continued.
“I sent the picture to the Ashwood pack’s Beta and he got back to me a few minutes ago p>
“What did you find?” I asked, now a little curious about where this was going.
“They’re an organized group who performs the bidding of whoever pays them… they do everything; pack wars, kill anyone who gets in the way and a whole lot of crazy things p>
He placed another picture in front of me and a familiar face popped up. “This is p>
“It is,” he said, nodding. “I want to believe they’re working together or he paid them to do something for him. I’m still searching to see what their deal is p>
A smirk appeared on my lips, “let me know as soon as you find something.” “Yes, Alpha. And everyone is already in the hall, I think you should come now.” Pushing myself away from my desk, I left my office and made my way to the hall where I would be addressing them. The murmurs grew louder as I entered the hall.
Their eyes turned to me, a mixture of worry and uncertainty was written on most of their faces. I scanned the room and my eyes fell on the cluster of members who had annoyed looks on their faces.
“Shut up!” I growled, my voice echoing through the hall and the murmuring died at
once.
“Now,” I started once I knew their attention was on me. “For those of you who think I give a fuck about your opinion on who my mate should be, you’re sadly mistaken.” My tone was even and calm.
I paused to make sure they were taking in everything I was saying before continuing.
“So let’s get one thing straight, I’m going to do what’s best for me and for my pack.
If my choices doesn’t suit you, then you can fucking leave p>
The murmuring returned and several questions went up in the air. I signaled
Caleb to take over and answer their questions. They weren’t happy with my
choice and they were wrong to think that I would choose the pack over if that time
comes.
Dani’s panicked face was the first thing that greeted me once I left the hall. An expression that I’d grown to dislike.
“Why are you here?” I asked, “Is Allie with Kaia p>
She shook her head, and her next words brought down my entire world.
“We can’t find her,” She said and a loud warning bell went off in my head. “We thought she went to get some air but after searching everywhere, we couldn’t find her p>
“Mate!” King whined as I ran the fastest I ever have to the hospital.
As I burst through the hospital’s door, my mind racing with each step, I hoped it was an expensive joke. Allie wore the same look as Dani, she was pacing around. The nurses had fear and confusion written on their faces.
“Where is she?” I yelled, my voice echoing down the hallway. Sweat breaking out on my forehead.
“S-she was sleeping, b-but one of the nurses stammered, her voice trembling.
“We’re sorry, Alpha-” The doctor started, I stretched my hand and grabbed his neck. My claws digging into his skin.
“If you don’t find her, then you’ll really be sorry.” King growled, resurfacing. He fell to the ground when I removed my hand.
Different images of Kaia crossed my mind, “was she hurt? Was this a way of the Elders trying to get me to do their bidding p>
“Kieran…Kieran!” I heard Allie call faintly but I ignored her, running towards the room but she wasn’t there. The clothes she was wearing last was neatly folded on top of the bed.
I ran a hand through my hair, “where could she be?” I thought.
“Her things are gone, Kieran.” Allie said, but that could mean anything, she wouldn’t leave me.
Ryder and Caleb came running before Allie or me could say anything.
“Find her!” I commanded.
“We already have men searching for her, she wouldn’t have gone far. We’ll bring her back.” Ryder Caleb said.
But there was no way I was going to stay still knowing my mate was out there somewhere and so were rogues and other packs who would do anything to get back at me.
I was going to find her, nomatter what.
“Please be okay, Bella.” I murmured, going towards the direction she was last
seen.
