Chapter 57

Kaia’s POV

I woke up with a start, my head was hurting, my lungs were burning like they were

on fire. I was on a bed, even though I was certain the cabin didn’t have one, nor

did it have lights.

“Where was I p>

The last thing I remembered was taking a stroll because Lylah needed to get better and she thought taking a walk might help and then she sensed King calling

for help.

I sat upright quickly, “Kieran! He was right in my arms and he I couldn’t bring myself to even say the word. Something didn’t feel right though, it felt like he was still here.

“Kaia! You’re finally awake!” Allie squealed, running towards me, wearing a relieved look.

“Her brother was dead because of me, how does she have it in her to be happy that I was awake?” I thought, looking at her suspiciously. “or was this her way of getting back at me? Killing me with kindness, so that the guilt would eat me up alive p>

She threw her arms around me as she started crying, “I was so scared something happened to you.” She said in between sobs. “I’m sorry you p>

I shook my head, “I’m the one who should be sorry.” I started, interrupting

whatever she was going to apologize for. “I’m the one who should be sorry. Your brother died p>

She pulled away, frowning, “no, he didn’t p>

Bowing my head slightly, I apologized again and if anything, she looked more confused.

The door burst open and Kieran entered and it was my turn to be confused. I could swear that he stopped breathing in my arms.

“Bella-thank goddess you’re awake!” Kieran said, rushing to my side, wrapping his arms around me.

“Did I go back in time?” I thought. That must be it. Good thing it wasn’t before I met Kieran.

When his hug wasn’t returned, he pulled away to stare at my face. He looked so proud and happy at the same time.

“If only he didn’t die.” I thought.

He chuckled softly, “I didn’t die, thanks to you p>

Allie murmured something about rubbing sweetness in her face and left the room.

“I don’t understand p>

He sighed deeply, taking my hand in his and using his thumb to caress them. “I thought I was dead too, but somehow you brought me back p>

“Am I a witch?” I asked him, and he burst out laughing.

I searched his eyes for signs that he was pulling my legs, but there was nothing. But at the same time, nothing he was saying made sense.

“Lylah.” I called. she would explain what was going on. She didn’t respond. I tried several times, but it didn’t change anything.

Kieran’s smile was gone now, “why don’t you sleep? Everything will make sense when you wake up.” He advised. And if I wasn’t so tired, I would’ve argued that it should make sense right away.

And just like he said, I felt better when I woke up. My head was no longer aching and I finally came to terms with the fact that Kieran wasn’t dead…which was a relief because I wouldn’t have survived otherwise.

I spent a good amount of time just lying in his arms, listening to his heartbeat and taking in his smell like I had been starved of it. Explanation could come later.

The more I rested, the more I regained my memory of what happened.

“My wolf!” I suddenly remembered. I shifted into my wolf for the first time.

Kieran caressed my arms softly, “you’ve been asleep for about a week now.” He said. “It’s only normal that your memory is a bit fuzzy p>

I gasped audibly, “a week?” I asked, “why do I still feel so tired p>

He sat upright, “you used a lot of energy when you healed me, Bella. Like you

said, I was dead…supposed to be, but when I opened my eyes, you were unconscious beside me p>

“That doesn’t make sense.” I told him.

Healed him? I would’ve remembered if I did something that crazy.

“I don’t know either, Bella.” He replied, “but once you’re strong and well rested, the doctor will let us know what happened p>

We stayed in a comfortable silence, making up for the days we spent apart.

There were a lot of things I needed to apologize for, but that could wait. I wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon, so there was no hurry.

“I’m sorry, Kieran.” I started after a while. As much as it could wait, I wanted him to know how sorry I was. But he just shook his head.

“You’re here now, that’s all that matters p>

It wasn’t…it shouldn’t be. He should yell at me, probably curse at me.

“I shouldn’t have run away. It’s because of you that you nearly died p>

“And again, it’s because of you that I’m here. And you promised, no more running p>

I nodded, “I promised.” And this time, I meant it.

“Then it’s okay.” He assured me. For the third time that day, I fell asleep in his arms.

The next time I opened my eyes, we weren’t alone, Allie and Dani sat at one corner of the room and looking at them, I realized just how much I missed them. “Luna!” They chorused.

“Are you okay?” Dani asked, searching my body for any form of injury. I had expected them to be angry but it was the opposite.

“I’m okay. I’m so sorry for making you guys worried p>

“We thought we were never going to see you again.” Dani said, crying and I felt Kieran’s arms tightened around me. A pang of guilt hit me.

“Don’t do it again.” She said, and I nodded. “I missed you so much p>

Kieran sent them away after a while and they grumbled about how he was being selfish. He just shrugged and stayed beside me, not taking his eyes off me, probably scared that if he did, I would disappear again…not that I blame him.

He had Maria bring dinner to the room and also fed me. Next, he prepared a bath for me. I let him wash me. He did it with so much care, his gaze remained on mine and everywhere his hand touched, it gave me shivers.

Reaching for him, I cupped his face, causing him to relax.

“I’ll be a better mate p>

Although I told him before, he needed to hear me say it when he wasn’t struggling to breath.

He placed his hand on my hand, “you’re everything I want, Kaia.” He started and I missed the way he called me Bella.

“I keep thinking about how else to prove to you that you’re important to me, more than anything else. Is there something I can do p>

I shook my head, “you’ve done enough. I just couldn’t believe that someone as powerful as you, would want a nob p>

“Bella p>

“Now, I don’t care anymore. All I did while I was hiding was regretting my decision

to leave you. I want to stay with you, by your side p>

“Then stay. I’m never going to not want you p>

“I know that now p>

Wrapping a towel around me, he carried me in his arms, and my arms went round

his neck.

“I love you, Kieran.” I told him, before connecting our lips.
