Chapter 69

Kaia’s POV

“Dani!” I yelled.

“What’s going on, Lylah?” I asked my wolf, my body trembling.

“I don’t know either, I can sense that something is wrong, that’s all p>

“Do you know where she is?” I asked again.

She didn’t reply, instead, she showed me the directions to go. I was running like something was after me, making some of the pack members turn to look at me, but I didn’t care as I kept running.

Lylah yelled the direction to go which I followed without a word.

The more we kept going, the more confusion set in. It wasn’t even up to five minutes that she left me but I’ve been running for over that but she was nowhere to be found.

Soon, I was almost at the forest which was far away from the pack house, and closer to the borders. My worry intensified when I still couldn’t find her. If we were this close to the borders and her scent had gotten all the way here, “was she still in the Pack p>

Shaking the thoughts away, “she has to be p>

A familiar voice rang in my head, “Bella, where are you?” Kieran’s voice was trembling, panic evident in his voice.

“Something is wrong with Dani, and I can’t find her.” I replied.

“I know, where are you?” He repeated.

“I’m not sure, I’m close to the Pack’s…I think I see her.” I said, slowing down. Dani had her back against a tree, it didn’t look like she was conscious but she was alive.

“Stay right where you are, I’ll find you.” Kieran said.

I didn’t respond, as I took slow strides towards her. My chest pounding against my ribcage, praying to the moon goddess that she was alright.

“Dani?” I called, once I was close enough.

Just like I assumed, she was unconscious. A loud gasp escaped my lips when my eyes landed on her arm that was bleeding. It had some sort of writing carved into her arm.

“Dani!” I yelled, shaking her body.

“What’s going on?” Kieran asked.

“There’s…they…oh no!” I sobbed, unable to form the words out of my mouth.

Barely a minute later, Kieran appeared with Caleb frantically running behind him. They were both in their wolf form. King was black and Caleb’s wolf was brown. Both were big but King easily towered over Caleb.

My gaze remained on him for a while, it was the first time I was seeing his form and it was a sight to behold. I soon snapped out of it when Caleb carried Dani from my arms.

Kieran also changed back and wrapped his arms around me, murmuring reassuring words in my ears.

Caleb looked like he was going to rip anyone who so much as stared at him as he held Dani, who still hadn’t moved.

“Her arm, there’s something there.” I pointed out, taking off the part of my dress that I’d torn to tie her up.

“Back off!” Caleb read before letting out a loud groan, his hand tightening around her. I’ve never seen him so distraught before.

“Take her to the pack house.” Kieran commanded.

Caleb nodded and immediately shifted into his wolf and Dani was placed on his back and he left. Kieran turned to face me, worry etched on his face.

“I’m sorry I made you worry.” I apologized, remembering what he said about throwing myself into danger.

He shook his hand, hugging me again, “you did well.” He told me and I let out a relieved breath.

Shifting into his Lycan, Kieran made me climb in his back as he raced back to the pack. I held him tightly to avoid slipping off and in no time, we were at the pack. Caleb had taken her to the hospital, where the doctor was cleaning her up. His hand held on to her own, no matter how many times the doctor asked him to go let go of her so he could work well.

“Alpha,” the doctor started, his gaze meeting Kieran before bowing his head. Then he turned to me, “Luna p>

“Go ahead.” Kieran ordered.

“Wolfsbane was used on her, but something else must’ve been used to knock her out. It knocked out her wolf also, hence the reason she isn’t healing.” He explained.

My eyes snapped to Dani, who was sleeping peacefully, the soft rising and falling

of her chest was the only indication she was alive.

“Can’t you do something? You have to help her.” Caleb yelled at the doctor.

“I’m sorry, Beta. We have to wait till she’s awake p>

Lylah was growling and pacing around restlessly until I couldn’t contain it anymore, I pushed myself up and went towards her.

The eyes of everyone in the room followed me, Kieran even stood up, but didn’t stop me.

“We can do it, right?” I asked Lylah and she shrugged, “Only one way to find out.” She replied, “place your hand over her wound.” She commanded and I nodded, doing exactly that.

Shutting my eyes and waiting for the healing to happen, but nothing changed. “What’s going on?” I asked Lylah.

“Just hold on.” She demanded and I remained like that. My eyes fluttered open to meet with different expressions. Caleb’s disappointed look was etched at the back of my mind.

Kieran moved to say something but I took my head as I tried again.

When nothing happened after several minutes, my frustration increased and I was holding back cursing out the moon goddess. If she wanted to give me something, she should give one that works.

Just when I was giving up on trying, I felt a familiar surge of energy in my inside, working its way out. It brought back memories of Kieran lying on the ground in the forest in the pool of his own blood.

Once I felt it, I put my hand over the wound and watched as my hand began to flow but soon after, I felt myself slipping into darkness.

The next time I opened my eyes, I was in Kieran’s arms, and my body felt a bit weak.

“What happened?” I asked Lylah.

“The important thing here is that you need to gain some stamina.” She said.

“You’re up.” Kieran’s voice said, before I could come up with a response for Lylah. I nodded and sat upright.

We were no longer in the hospital room and unlike the last time when I fainted, I remembered why I fainted this time around.

“How’s Dani? Is she okay p>

He nodded, “thanks to you, she’s fine.” He replied and I let out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding.

“Let’s go and see her? Is she awake p>

“We’ll see her in the morning, it’s already late. And I need you to eat something and then rest more p>

“But I started. “Okay p>

He sent me a grateful smile before asking Maria to bring our dinner which she did almost immediately. Kieran fed me despite my argument that I could do it myself…but I liked it, so I let him.

I was relieved that Dani was okay, but a huge part of me was scared about it

happening again…not to her, just anyone else in the pack.

“Back off?” I thought, “what exactly does that mean p>

I soon went back to sleep, the question playing over and over in my head.
