Chapter 72
Kaia’s POV
Dylan was awake now and compared to the last time I saw him, he looked better. His wolf was slowly healing him and the person I recognized was returning. He didn’t say anything as I helped him up, giving him food and water. That was the least I could do at the moment since Kieran has forbidden me from using my powers on him.
“Ryder, are you seriously going to stand there all through?” I asked him, my eyebrows raising in disbelief.
“Sorry Luna, Alpha’s command.” He replied.
I took a deep breath, “of course he told him.” I thought, as I’d already told Kieran, I was going to the child care.
Lylah snorted, “your excuse was nothing close to being believable. He just let you go because he knew they would be here p>
Dylan was sitting with his back resting against the wall, his eyes remaining on mine even, his blue eyes, were a contrast to the dark circles underneath as I spoke to Ryder and then Lylah.
“I was wrong,” he started, his voice still sounding raspy. “Your survival skills aren’t that bad p>
I smiled, the last conversation…probably the first one that didn’t involve me trembling from what was going to happen. He’d told me how I wouldn’t survive alone with my terrible skills. And in a way, he wasn’t wrong.
“You were right.” I told him, and a surprised look crossed his face as I continued. “I got caught, about a week later though p>
“That’s something, but you’re a Luna now.” he said, “so I’ll say you survived just fine.” He finished and I didn’t miss the way Ryder rolled his eyes at that but I ignored him. He put himself in the situation, not me.
“Yea I smiled, my cheeks turning a bright shade of red. “I found out Kieran was my mate.” Second chance mate but what does that matter? He was the only one I wanted.
And besides, he knew about Aiden, so there was no need to open up that part of my life…at least not right now.
“So, how are I started, but the door burst open, and Kieran walked in, alongside Caleb. The air thickened as they came in, but no one was affected, seeing how both Ryder and Dylan held high position…well, Kieran was my mate.
They were both wearing matching expressions, their eyes fixed intently on Dylan, signifying the fact that they were not coming to joke around. My head jerked to Dylan, panic setting in.
They were both angry, especially with the attack on Dani and then having no clue about who the culprit was. And as much as I understood that, they shouldn’t focus on the wrong person because something seems off about him.
“Alpha,” Ryder called, bowing his head.
Kieran didn’t respond, his eyes fixed on the bed where my hand was resting on Dylan’s own and I snatched it away, murmuring a quiet sorry.
“Alpha.” Dylan said, but got a glare in response.
I wanted to assure Dylan that I’d talking to Kieran for him, but Lylah reminded me
of what happened the last time when I did exactly that in front of everyone so I kept quiet. I couldn’t exactly mindlink him to tell him that, so I guess that would have to wait until we were alone.
“Mindlink him.” Lylah said.
My brows furrowed, “you know I can’t.” I told her.
“How would you know if you never tried p>
I paused, there was never a reason for me to mindlink him before, except I was asking for a death wish. It wouldn’t have worked since I didn’t have my wolf then… but I do now.
“Just picture him in your mind like you do with Kieran, and then talk.” Lylah commanded, and I did exactly that, an image of Dylan worked its way into my mind.
“Check, one two.” I said loudly, “reply if you can hear me.” Lylah snickered once I was done. “what do you think this is? A microphone p>
Dylan’s head jerked to mine, his eyes widened in shock, “how can you He started, as realization dawned on him. “You got your wolf?” He asked.
I nodded excitedly, “and I can talk to you p>
Before he could respond, Kieran snapped his fingers in front of me, he wore a confused look on his face and my best and only guess was that he’d tried calling
me.
“Bella, are you okay?” He asked, his voice held worry in them.
I nodded, “I’m okay. Just got carried away for a minute p>
He didn’t look like he believed me, but he didn’t push forward either. “I don’t want you to be here for this, go meet the girls, I’ll come for you once I’m done here.” He told me.
I didn’t like the sound of that one bit, but I nodded. “I’ll see you later p>
My eyes went to Dylan whose composure didn’t falter as he watched my interaction with Kieran. Mind-linking him that I would be back later, I left the room, shutting the door behind me as I went. The sound echoing through the hallway.
As I went to the girls, my mind created images of what could be going on in the room with Dylan and then moved to the fact that I could talk to someone other than Kieran through my mindlink.
“Lylah, do you think I can talk to other people from my former pack?” I asked.
I haven’t been sworn into this pack yet, so there should be some sort of connection left with the members there. Not that I had someone that I was desperate to talk to there.
“You can talk to anyone you please p>
“From the pack you mean p>
“I mean anyone. You really should stop undermining the things we can do.” She said, her tone bored.
“Anyone…like anyone?” I asked, my voice raising. “Why didn’t you say anything? Wait…can I talk to Dani too? What about Allie p>
She ignored me, but that didn’t stop my questions. She couldn’t get tired of me,
even if she did, she wasn’t going anywhere. She might as well deal with me.
I hastened my pace to the child care, eager to tell them the new development. Seeing how it was unheard of to be able to do that.
Nessa’s familiar face when I got to them stopped me from saying anything.
“Luna!” She screamed. I’ve never met someone who was enthusiastic about every single thing, but it was a breath of fresh air from all the depressing news.
“How are you?” I asked, looking at the girls who were busy taking care of the children. “What are you doing here p>
“I’m going to be coming here now, my friends are going to start training…so I’m going to help around the way I can p>
“That’s amazing,” I smiled, “you’re going to like it here. The kids are lovely.” I assured her. And she nodded, linking her hand to mine as we went towards the girls who couldn’t help the frown on their faces when they saw her.
“This is Nessa, she’s going to join us here for now p>
“Hi.” She greeted.
“This is Dani, and this is Allie.” I introduced them and their faces relaxed as they welcomed her. They went ahead to do some sort of touring, introducing her to the kids who welcomed her well also.
I guess my news was going to have to wait.
