Chapter 73
Kieran’s POV
My gaze met Dylan’s who looked away, bowing his head. King was still distracted from the look Kaia had on her face before she left. He was also wearing a familiar one, even though nothing was said.
“I’m going to ask some questions and I need you to answer them because I would not hesitate to throw you back to the dungeon. Do I make myself clear?” My voice firm.
“Yes, Alpha.” He replied, “I’ve told you ever he continued, but paused when Caleb glared at him.
“How did you hide your scent for that long?” I asked, that seemed like the best place to start. He paused, his eyes widened in confusion as he looked between the three of us.
“I had help…ermm.” He trailed off.
When he didn’t continue, I took slow strides towards him, a smirk playing on my lips. He must think I was here to spend time with him.
Caleb passed me a bottle of wolfsbane and once he saw it, his expression faltered, but was back on almost immediately. He then paused, like he was talking to his wolf or mind-linking someone, but that wasn’t possible so, it was definitely his wolf.
“A witch.” He let out, just before the bane touched him. A loud groan escaped his lips.
“Now, that wasn’t so hard.” I mocked, “keep going, tell me everything.” I ordered.
“A witch helped me, I’m not sure what she did, but by the time she was done, my smell was gone. She also gave me some sort of bracelet that increased my speed, making me super fast.” He said.
“How can we reach her p>
He shook his head, “she’s traveling around. The last time I met her, she said she would be gone for a while, nothing more.” He finished.
“He’s telling the truth.” King said after a while, “let’s hope he doesn’t have anywhere important to be p>
I stormed out of the room, my footsteps echoing loudly as I went down the hallway that led to my office. Pack members moving out of the way, after murmuring some greetings, which I nodded to. Caleb and Ryder followed me, both of them not uttering a word.
“We can’t wait for that particular witch to return, dig into others that would be of help p>
“Yes Alpha p>
“And I need everything you have on the AXE.” I said, “we need to be prepared for them when they come again.” They nodded, and Caleb left to deal with it.
“How was his conversation with Kaia?” I asked Ryder.
“Nothing seemed out of the ordinary and Luna was happy that he was getting better…they didn’t talk about anything serious p>
I let out a groan, there was this uneasiness that I haven’t been able to put a finger on. And no matter how many times I tortured Dylan, his answer remained the same, and nothing indicated that he wasn’t telling the truth.
“Do you think if Luna talks to him, it’ll produce a different result?” He asked.
I shook my head, “he’s a Beta, he knows keeping quiet wouldn’t help. So I doubt he has anything else to say p>
“Our mate shouldn’t go anywhere near him.” King growled.
Yea, I didn’t trust him either.
Ryder left to go assist Caleb, leaving me to think about the next step on how to deal with them. I was already planning to meet with witches to unmask the smell so that we would know exactly who we were dealing with. And that alone was going against the rules of the Pack…after my parents banished them.
And as much as the Elders were quiet, I knew plans were silently going on especially about Kaia, but I had other important things to do before I could focus on them squarely.
Pushing myself out of my seat, I went in search of Kaia. King, who was pacing around, calmed down when we laid eyes on her. The girls and the other kids were seated around her, as she spoke to them.
I could barely make out any of her words…my attention was wholly on her, the way her eyes lit up when she smiled, the way she ran her hand through her hair when she was deep in thoughts…something I would never get tired of. She was effortlessly stunning, her-
“Kieran!” Allie’s voice called, jerking me back to the present.
“Can you scream any louder?” I snapped, turning my head back to Kaia who was already staring at me, my brows raised slightly.
“Someone annoyed you?” She asked.
I let out a sigh, “I can’t seem to figure this out, and it’s weighing on me. The fact that they may already be in the pack puts the members at a risk. I swore to protect them no matter what p>
“And you are, they can see that. And Kaia is telling them just how perfect you are.” She said, snorting, “I’m jealous, so I’m leaving.” The smile on her face suggested she was playing around, so I just shrugged.
“Is Kaia okay? With her step brother and all p>
“She’s just happy she gets to pay him back for saving her.” She replied, and I resisted the urge to groan again, “she haven’t said anything, but I think you should listen to him.” She finished.
“I guess I’m just worried about her past coming to hurt her p>
“Which I understand and agree with. But there’s a different way to go about it p>
I nodded.
Looking up once more, I saw Kaia already coming towards me, and Allie used the opportunity to go back to the room.
“You’re done? Were you able to get anything useful?” She asked, once she got to me. Worry about what my response would be flashed through her eyes. I didn’t didn’t understand how she was able to forget everything that he did to her.
“Nothing we didn’t already know. But we’re going to keep looking p>
“Is he going back to the…dungeon p>
I shook my head, “Not for now.” I told her and she fought back a smile.
“Okay.” She said, holding my hand. “And I have something to tell you, but it can wait. I’m hungry p>
“Bella…you can tell me on the way p>
“I can, but where’s the fun in that?” She asked, pulling me down to meet her gaze, she connected our lips, kissing me lightly. But before I could respond, she pulled away.
Fuck!
Pulling her back, a chuckle escaping her lips as my hand rested firmly on her waist, I kissed her again, this time, deepening the kiss.
“Kids are watching.” She murmured, pulling away again and I frowned. She waved to the kids who were really watching before pulling me with her.
She was going to be the death of me!
