Chapter 72
Chapter 74
Kaia’s POV
I remained cuddled in Kieran’s arms when we got to his office. I would very much prefer the room after that kiss, but there were sure to be interruptions and I wasn’t a fan of them.
“I mean, I haven’t tried it yet, but I think I can mindlink other people I paused, looking up at him, waiting to see his reaction. His eyes widened in surprise, but a hint of smile played on his lips.
“How did you… Lylah?” He asked.
“Yes, she convinced me to talk to Dylan earlier, but she was also certain I could talk to whomever I wanted to. I haven’t had the chance to test it out yet p>
His smile quickly disappeared, and was replaced by a frown as he sat upright. “You spoke to Dylan?” His voice came out higher.
I nodded, “surprising right! I thought it was because we come from the same Pack. But Lylah thinks otherwise, and now I think I’m finally starting to look forward to all the things we can do.” I replied, offering him a wide grin and his eyes softened as he stared down at me.
Lylah lets out a groan, “I can’t deal with this right now.” She said, and without giving me a chance to ask what she was talking about, she retreated to the back of my head.
But I didn’t dwell on her and her tantrums as I focused my attention on Kieran. “Have I told you how proud I am that you’re mine?” He asked, his voice coming out low and hoarse, his hand tightening around me and his face coming closer to mine barely leaving any space between us.
I smiled, I’d expected the conversation to go a different way, but I love the direction it was going in.
My voice dropped to a sultry whisper, “I never get tired of hearing it p>
“I’m fucking proud you’re mine,” he growled, his eyes darkening with desire as he kissed me again. And just like all of his kisses, I couldn’t get enough.
“I’m yours!” I repeated, another growl sounding at the back of his throat, deepening the kiss. His hand found its way under my dress, caressing my skin, sending shivers down my spine.
We should’ve gone to the room instead!
But not surprisingly, before we could go any further, the door burst open, revealing Ryder, a frantic look and his face. Kieran made sure my dress was properly adjusted before throwing a glare at Ryder. And I would have done the same if not for the look he was wearing.
“Alpha, you need to see he started, his eyes landing on us and he paused. “I’ll just wait outside.” He murmured.
“What is it?” Kieran asked, putting some space between us. I missed the warmth being in his provided but this was important.
“There was an attack He replied, and I felt my heart sink. Even Kieran froze beside me.
Several questions went through my mind, “had someone been taken again? What message did they leave behind this time around p>
“In the neighbouring pack, and all three victims died not long after…and from what I gathered, I think it’s our shooter again p>
Kieran stood up, worry lines appearing on his forehead. He collected the reports from Ryder, going through them as he paced around the office. Ryder on the other hand was avoiding making eye contact with me, his eyes darting everywhere else.
“I want to see them.” Kieran said, and my head jerked towards him.
“Kieran I didn’t hide my fear. I almost lost him once, I sure wasn’t going to let it happen again.
He cupped my face in his palms, stroking my cheeks with his thumb, his gaze not leaving mine. “I’m going to be back before you know it.” He promised, his voice soft but I wasn’t having it this time.
“I’ll go with you p>
He sighed deeply, “Bella, you know I can’t let you do that.” He said.
“What if something happens? I won’t be able to heal you if I’m not there.” I argued. “Nothing is going going to p>
I didn’t let him finish, “you don’t know that.” I told him. “what if they show up again and this is just a plan to lure you there p>
“Then you’ll be the first person I’ll call p>
As much as I wanted to argue, I knew it wasn’t going to produce a different result. He’d never let me go to a place he knew would be dangerous. It was common mate instinct to be protective of their mate but I also think Kieran was built differently.
“Of course he was!” Lylah said, coming back from wherever she was.
“Mindlink me once you’re there. And you’re not permitted to end it until you’re back.” I told him, my voice failing to come out as firm as I wanted it to.
He nodded, “I love you, Bella p>
“I love you.” He kissed my lips one more time before turning to leave. He hadn’t left yet and I was already missing him.
“Bye Luna.” I heard Ryder say and a frown appeared on my face. “You’re still here?” I asked and Kieran chuckled lightly while he frowned.
Once they were gone, I debated on what to do. I doubt I could handle the kids right now and the hospital on its own was more work.
“I need to find something else to do around here.” I concluded.
“Your brother might have information that could be useful or not.” Lylah said nonchalantly. I didn’t know what to make about the way she switches sides. One minute she’s with Kieran, and the next, she doesn’t have an issue going against him.
But she was right, I needed to talk to him.
“Luna.” The warriors guarding his door greeted, once they saw me. They were different from the ones in the dungeon and they didn’t hesitate to move out of the
way.
Dylan was already awake when I entered. “You look much better.” I told him, sitting on the bed beside him.
“I feel that way too.” He murmured.
I nodded, but didn’t say anything. Before coming here, there were a lot of things I
wanted to ask, but now that I was looking at him, nothing was coming.
“You got your wolf?” He started.
“Yea, not long after I left.” I told him. “Turns out I wasn’t wolf-less like everyone thought.” Once that left my mouth, I saw his body visibly stiffened.
“I shouldn’t have said that p>
He shook his head, “I deserved it.” He said. “But I’m glad you did.” I waited to feel
a sense of unease that he was teasing me, but nothing came and my body relaxed.
“Now that you’re here, won’t uhmm Ai…your Alpha and your mom miss you?” I asked, “you’re important to the pack p>
He shrugged, “they think I’m on an official assignment and Aiden couldn’t care less. He wasn’t very happy that I somehow let you escape the pack.” He explained. “He doesn’t know you’re here yet.” He added, answering my unasked question.
I felt my chest tightened, “yet p>
“Melissa mentioned seeing you in the mall, so he has been sending men to look for you.” He said, and I moved back from him.
His eyes widened when he noticed. “I’m not here on his order, I wanted to warn you…now I think I was the one who needed warning p>
My brows furrowed in confusion, “Warn me? Why would you do that?” I asked
him.
“I felt bad for the way I treated you and this is me trying to make amends.” He sounded genuine enough and I believed him, but there was still something that I couldn’t make sense of.
“Can I ask you a question p>
He nodded his head, “Of course p>
“Why did you hate me p>
