Chapter 95
Chapter 98
Kieran’s POV
“I found something, Alpha.” Dylan said, and I nodded for him to come in, which he
did, taking the seat in front of me.
“Ashley?” I asked, resting my back as I waited for him to start talking.
“I found her, but she didn’t do it.” He started, “she agreed that she has a grudge against Kaia…Luna but she swore that she didn’t do it p>
Ignoring the slip off, I frowned. “That doesn’t prove that she didn’t do it.” I pointed out, a feeling of disappointment seared through me. I had expected that he was coming with something concrete and not speculation.
“It doesn’t. But when I asked her about the fight with Maria, she went quiet.” Now, my interest was piqued as he continued, “they were arguing about a boy p>
“Hold on I interrupted, massaging my temple gently to soothe the headache I knew was coming. “How did we go from solving a break in to boy issues?” I asked him.
He chuckled lightly, “They weren’t fighting because they loved the same guy, it was more of Ashley warning Maria because her boyfriend was a bad influence on her p>
“Interesting! Why does she think so p>
He went ahead to explain that Maria was going to extra lengths to please him even though he wasn’t her mate. And that at first, it was little things but it escalated into covering up for him when he did something that was unacceptable.
“What’s her boyfriend’s name?” I asked.
“Jake.” He replied, “he’s a warrior.” He added and recognition flashed through my eyes. If he was the same person Caleb was supposed to be looking into, then Maria must be covering for him considering how she preferred that her friend took the fall for something he did.
With the way that things were going, anyone could easily make another person a suspect as long as they looked or have done anything suspicious.
“What does Ashley smell like p>
He thought about it for a few seconds, “I’m not sure, but I think a flowery smell… rose or something.” He said, confirming that Ashley wasn’t the culprit.
I mind-linked Caleb to tell him about the recent developments, and how he should make sure to hold him before I got there. He must’ve thought that if the potion wasn’t in the armory, it would be in I and Kaia’s room. If he thought like that, then I still had a lot of work to do with training them.
“And Alpha Dylan called, still sitting. “I noticed something common among the guys we caught. They all had a tattoo of an Axe on their chest p>
Of course, they were the same people!
“I think we can identify others within the Pack…if there are any left.” He suggested and I nodded.
But it got me thinking, “was this what the Elders were planning and hence the reason for their silence or was this just the leader aiming for something else p>
Once Caleb and Ryder were done, the next thing would be fishing out those who thought it was a wise idea to double cross me. I assured him that I would send for him once we were ready and he nodded, standing up to leave.
My head returned to the paperwork I was doing before he came in. I was a bit disappointed about Maria but I tried not to dwell on it.
“I know you don’t trust me I heard Dylan say and my head jerked upward to look at him, wondering what this was about. And I wouldn’t exactly say I didn’t trust him…okay, maybe I didn’t, but you couldn’t blame me.
“The stories I heard before you came here, didn’t exactly paint you well p>
He nodded, coming back to sit down. “And I regret it, she didn’t deserve any of it. I’m trying to make amends, I don’t care how long it’s going to take.” He said.
The regret he felt was evident in his eyes and Kaia already forgave him, so it was pointless keeping him at arm’s length especially now that he was trying to help with the situation on ground.
“Your Alpha p>
“Aiden doesn’t know she’s here, he’s looking for her.” He said. “Things haven’t been the same in the pack since she left p>
“How did you find her?” I asked, a question that I realized I haven’t gotten an answer to.
He went ahead to explain how the girl from their Pack that Kaia ran into at the mall mentioned it to everyone who cared to listen that she met Kaia and he took it upon himself to go in search of her, starting from nearby Packs.
And he circled each pack more than two times until he got caught. It was the
reason we felt his presence at different times.
“Just one question, why? You didn’t have to do any of that p>
He shifted uncomfortably in his seat, “I needed to apologize. And I felt guilty about
knowing my mom’s plan and still letting her have her way p>
“What is he talking about?” King asked me, like I was somehow supposed to
know the answer to that.
“What do you mean p>
“I didn’t find out until later, her wolf was suppressed because of the panic drug my mom got her p>
I froze, as King let out a growl. Anger
rumbled in my chest, all the while she thought she was wolf-less, turns out it was someone’s plan. But why exactly? It wasn’t like she had anything to gain.
“Alpha, we have a situation.” Caleb’s voice came, with a sense of urgency before I could come up with a response for Dylan. But this was a conversation we would definitely get back to.
King was itching to run his claws through things and so was my fist, especially those from her former pack.
“We have a situation at the dungeon.” I told Dylan and he was on his feet immediately, following behind me as I matched to the dungeon, wondering what could be wrong this time.
But I didn’t expect what I met.
Strong smell of something decaying
hit my nose once we neared the dungeon and I scrunched my nose in disgust. I didn’t have to look hard to find the reason behind the smell as the body of the three shooters laid on the ground and a fourth body I couldn’t tell who it belonged to.
“What the fuck happened?” I growled, turning to face Caleb.
My eyes landed on the girl trembling beside him, her eyes was blank as she stared at the body.
“I left to question Maria, and returned to this. But she doesn’t remember anything…either that or she’s shocked at the results p>
“Start talking.” I said, using my Alpha command and her body turned to me.
“I was in the hospital when a girl walked up to me,” she started, “she said I needed to treat the prisoners and gave me this.” She pointed to the small bottle
and syringe.
“Which girl p>
“I don’t remember, Alpha.” Her voice was low as she continued to stare. “Alpha,” Caleb called and my head snapped to him. “I think she was under a spell, which means there’s a witch in the pack p>
I ran a hand through my hair, lines appearing on my forehead as I thought about what the next step should be.
“It was time I spoke to my dad, no matter how hard I thought about it, the thing with the witches felt like there was more to it, especially now that they’re determined to take revenge.
“What should we do?” Caleb asked.
“Take care of the bodies.” I told him. No doubt they’d been silenced so that they wouldn’t talk. The only other person who might know something was Maria…my Dad could wait.
“Dylan, let’s go talk to Maria p>
