Chapter 114

Kieran’s POV

So, ever since we found out about Nessa and the fact that she was most likely working with the shooters, we haven’t had any attacks. While that was good news, it felt like something else was going on. Nessa hasn’t done anything out of the ordinary…it was either she was that good at faking it or she knew that she had been discovered.

“But why wasn’t she doing anything p>

The meeting was the next day, so her case could wait until that was done.

“Alpha,” Caleb called and my head snapped to him. “From the record and everything, there’s nothing that says Nessa’s adoptive parents are witches, my best guess is that they found out after they took her in and decided to keep it a secret p>

I nodded, that was almost as bad as them committing the crime themselves.

“Let them be for now, but have Ryder keep a close watch on them p>

“Yes Alpha p>

I engrossed myself in the paperwork Caleb brought along when he was coming. They needed urgent attention since they had to deal with the finances of the Pack, their feeding and everything else that was needed around the Pack.

“Kieran,” Kaia’s soft voice rang in my head and I immediately sat upright. “Yes, Bella p>

“I don’t think Nessa knows…she keeps asking questions that sound like she’s trying to see how much I know.” She explained.

“Don’t make her suspect anything…be as vague as possible p>

She agreed, “yea. I’ll do that. I’ll talk to you later p>

“And Bella,” I called and heard her hum. “Be careful please p>

As much as I wanted to put an end to the incident, I don’t want to put Kaia in danger while doing so. King spoke to Lylah when she fainted after healing Nessa and she said they needed to conserve as much energy as they could. So even if Kaia could handle herself against Nessa, I didn’t want her to try.

After I ended the mindlink, I continued working until Caleb spoke again.

“I’ve gone through this report more than twice he started, “and all I can see is

the fact that the witches committed a conspiracy that led to the death of Pack members, but nothing was said about what they actually did p>

I paused, remembering how my mom flared up when I asked the same question.

And the more we looked at it, the more suspicious it looked.

If we don’t get to the root of it, all we were doing was following a thread.

Pushing myself out of my chair, I told Caleb I would be back as I made my way out of the office and headed straight to my parents house. They gave the order, and I was surely getting an answer out of them today at whatever cost.

My dad was already outside which made the conversation we were going to have even faster and easier.

“Did your mother do something again?” He asked, his voice calm. “Because I know you aren’t here because you missed me p>

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes at him but he was right of course. “I need to know something.” I told him and he raised his brows.

Not waiting for his permission, I continued. “The incident that led to the banishment of witches from the pack, what was it?” I asked. “It’s not in the records, only that they were banished p>

His head snapped to mine when I asked that but he looked away and rested his back against the chair. “It’s not in the records for a reason, so let it be p>

“Whatever reason it is, I am the Alpha of this Pack and it’s my responsibility to make sure my members are saved.” I said.

“So let’s make it easier for ourselves and just talk p>

He thought about it for a few minutes before deciding that it wasn’t worth it. “They were going to kill my mate and unborn pup. Having them out of my Pack once and for all was the best way of keeping both of them safe.” He explained.

“Kill? What are you talking about p>

A deep breath escaped his lips as he told me how he’d notice my mom change after getting pregnant with Allie. He first thought she was just overwhelmed until it got worse and would cry at any small thing without saying anything but the doctor assured him that for some people it was normal.

He believed it too until he found her in the pool of her blood and on the verge of death that even the doctors were at a loss of what to do. She’d lost a lot of blood.

“How did she survive? If the doctor weren’t sure what to do p>

“A healer.” He replied, and my eyes widened at the piece of information. I never knew my mom had gone through all of this, and a healer?

“What? How?” Apart from Kaia, their clan had been wiped out after a rogue attack.

“A member of the Pack had found her mate who was a healer…he healed your mother, saving both their lives p>

Never, in all of my wildest guess, would I have imagined something like that happening and it was probably the reason my mom flared up.

He then went on to explain that once my mom got better, she confessed that

she’d been threatened by this witch and her mate, who wanted her to do things for them but when she stood her ground against them, they cast a spell on her.

“It’s a sensitive topic for your mom and you can’t blame her. If the healer didn’t come in time, she

might’ve died.” His voice held so net

much pain, and I understood. Seeing

your mate in a situation whereing

unable to help has to be the worst form of torture.

“Thank the goddess she made it.” I said, I couldn’t imagine Allie not being in my life. “What about the conspiracy? The members that died p>

He shifted uncomfortably in his seat, “that’s how the healer clan came to an end p>

My face scrunched up in confusion, not connecting the dots if there was one.

“At first, only the family was banished but after they found out your mom was alive and the reason why, with the help of other witches and rogues, they attacked the healers…by the time we got to them, it was too late p>

“And no one survived?” I asked and he nodded.

If I wasn’t sure before, I’m certain someone did now and Kaia was the proof that someone did. “But was it her mom who was dead or her dad, who was an asshole p>

“Is this still about the witch situation?” He asked. He knew that the shooters were working alongside one, but we assumed it was someone outside the pack.

I nodded, “she’s a member of the Pack.” I told him, and his head jerked to mine again.

“What? I made sure I got rid of all he trailed off, his eyes widening. “There was

a little girl. Her parents begged me to let her stay behind…she was innocent so I

did p>

I snorted, “well, that innocent girl isn’t innocent anymore.” I told him, standing up to leave.

Now that I know what I wanted to know, it still feels like there was still a missing piece. Or it was because I was reading too much into it. But at least, it was a step further from where I stood before.

If Nessa’s parents were among them, then instead of trying to get revenge, she should be grateful she was spared and that was her parents’ wish for her even though she didn’t know it.

I’m certain this was something Caleb would be happy to get to the end of. But for now, we’d focus on the meeting hoping it goes well.
