Chapter 143
Kaia’s POV
After everyone left to carry out the task that had been assigned to them, only Katherine and I were left in the office, sitting opposite each and the both of us didn’t try to start up any conversation, which for a moment was good because the only thing I could think about was Kieran bringing back the person behind this spell and also hoping that Dylan was okay.
“Why didn’t we think of Nessa?” Lylah asked me, and my eyes widened.
“Fuck!” I cursed, “What if that’s the reason she’s been staying away because she’s planning this?” I replied, asking a question of my own.
I stood up, with a sense of urgency, causing Katherine to look up at me. “What’s wrong? Is everything okay with Dylan?” She asked.
The worry in her voice made me forget for a brief moment why I stood up. Of course she was worried about her son. She knew that no matter what she said, Dylan still would’ve offered to be the bait.
“He’s fine.” I told her.
It hasn’t been long since they left and I couldn’t feel anything from Kieran that suggested he wasn’t okay or that things weren’t going smoothly.
“I-I…uhmm, I need to check something p>
She nodded, and I moved towards the door but just before I could open the door, it swung open and Dani entered, her eyes scanning my body for only who knows what and then she looked at Katherine, who was observing the scene in front of her, and then back at me.
“Are you okay?” She asked, still eyeing Katherine.
I cracked a smile, “I’m okay p>
She gave me a reluctant nod, “Sorry I’m just coming, I had to check on Allie on my way here. She hasn’t woken up yet p>
“Yea, but she’ll be fine. The effect of the spell is wearing off.” I assured her.
“Nessa came around today, she’s still in the childcare…she wanted to come here, but that wasn’t going to happen under my watch p>
My eyes widened, “I was just thinking about her? Why didn’t we think that she could be behind the spell. She’s a witch after all p>
She paused, definitely thinking about it too, “I don’t think so…I mean, if she’s sitting there p>
“What if that’s what she wants us to think? She didn’t show up since the attack and she’s suddenly here? What if she’s not really the one p>
“You think someone else is pretending to be her?” She asked.
Lylah snorted, “What do you think this is? A fantasy world where anything goes p>
“It’s possible.” I murmured. Or what other explanation do we have for her sudden reappearance at the same time a spell was cast. And it would be dumb to put a compelling spell on someone while she was still in the Pack house.
“I don’t think Luna Clarissa would work with her…but that’s just me though.” Dani said.
I took a deep breath, this case was turning me into a crazy lady but that would end once Kieran returns with the people behind it. Both of us took our seats again, the possibility of Nessa being behind it gone. A part of me was excited because soon, we would no longer have to deal with her anymore.
The next few hours that followed, while waiting for the guys to return was pure torture. And I was convinced that Kieran had blocked me out of his thoughts.
“What do you think is going on?” Dani asked, when we ran out of things to talk about.
“I’m not sure,” I replied honestly. “Kieran has blocked me out and before you came, Alpha Tyler ran out of Allie’s room in a hurry p>
“What does that mean?” She asked again, a little panicked.
I shrugged, “it could mean anything.” My head turned towards Katherine, who up until now, haven’t said anything.
“Dylan is going to be fine, Kieran is not going to let anything happen to him.” I told her, I wasn’t sure why le felt the need to comfort her. “He’s like family to us, and we always protect ours.” I added, and Dani agreed, even though she didn’t stop giving me the ‘what the hell are you doing?’ look.
She thanked me, and told me she wasn’t worried about him. “Why couldn’t you shield Allie? I know your powers allow you to do so.” She asked instead.
I frowned, “I thought the shield was only for when I’m in danger p>
She shook her head, “you used it on Dylan, so I doubt it. You need to stop underestimating the things that you can do p>
“I agree with her.” Lylah said and I rolled my eyes at her. “Of course you do p>
So, I let her explain the way to go about using my shield anyone apart from myself. And the more she spoke, I was amazed at how much she knew about it but I just let her explain.
We went on for hours until I felt myself drifting to sleep.
After what felt like several hours later, my eyes fluttered opened and instead of the couch where I laid my head, Kieran’s body became my pillow. And in an instant, I was fully awake.
“You’re back, how did it- what the fuck happened to you?” I asked, taking in the bruises all over his body. They were already healing but they still looked bad.
“I’m fine, Bella p>
“Well, you don’t look fine.” I snapped, and a deep breath escaped his lips. My eyes dropped to the ground in guilt. “I’m sorry, I’m just worried, Are you okay? How did this happen? Where is everyone?” I rushed out at once.
Sitting upright, I let my hand go over his bruises, healing them. “Caleb sustained bruises and Katherine is handling them p>
“Why didn’t you let her check you too?” I asked, just as I healed up all his wounds.
“My favorite nurse was asleep, I didn’t want anyone else.” He replied and I felt my face heat up. He sounded tired and drained, making me wonder what happened out there.
The clothes he had on was soiled with blood, so I led him back to our room where I helped him shower and change into fresh clothes, without asking questions. Those could come later.
“I love you, Bella.” He said suddenly, pulling me towards him, wrapping his arms around me
My heart skipped a beat…maybe two. I was used to him being so open about his feelings but this sounded different.
“I love you too p>
The fact that he wasn’t saying anything was making me worried, several thoughts
on what could’ve gone wrong crossed my mind, especially with all three of them sustaining injuries.
Hopefully their injuries came along with some good news.
