Chapter 147
Kaia’s POV
The door opened and Dylan entered with a familiar face standing beside him… Nora! I haven’t seen her as much since I ran away and was brought back. She had her head facing the ground and Dylan…well, he looked like him, just a little tense.
“You know her?” Dylan asked, not masking his shock.
I nodded, “she works in the kitchen.” I replied. “What did you do to her? She looks like she wants to disappear p>
Kieran snorted as he sat upright, his arms around me loosening. “You found something?” He asked, clearly not interested in small talk. Dylan nodded and stepped forward, stretching a phone to Kieran.
“She was talking to her mom about Luna Kaia, and there are pictures of her on the phone.” He said. “I think it might be connected to the attack.” He added, his voice low as he spoke and he looked away from her.
My eyes widened, my jaw dropped as I looked at the girland I found it hard to believe, considering how many times she defended me in the presence of other Omegas.
I felt Kieran’s body froze against mine as he went through the pictures in the phone and back at her.
“It’s not what you think, I-I s-swear.” Nora said, falling to her knees and tears streaming down her face. “I c-can explain p>
“Go on with it.” Kieran growled, his eyes darkening. He stood up in all of his might.
I could the anger radiating off him, even without the mate bond.
Nora made herself smaller on the ground, “S-she’s t-the chosen o-one, I was just telling them at home that I found her p>
A look of surprise appeared on the faces of the three of us. Kieran’s stance faltered a bit, but that didn’t make him any less terrifying to the girl who looked like she wanted to disappear if she could.
“How do you know about that?” Kieran asked her.
She took a deep breath and one look at me, “I’m from the healer clan p>
The silence that followed her revelation was deafening. Lylah began pacing around, and for reasons known to her, she was excited.
I could swear that the records and everything related to the Clan points out that
there were no survivors…I mean I was a proof that it wasn’t true, but now she was here, saying something else.
“Healer’s Clan? How’s that possible p>
Nora nodded, “Not everyone died… but they chose to live as ordinary wolves in order not to draw attention to themselves p>
I couldn’t feel my heartbeat anymore, my heart was racing like it was going to rip out of its cage. I didn’t want to give myself hope and have it taken away.
She herself couldn’t be more than eighteen which means she was born after the attack on the Pack and everything she was saying was what she was told. But I have several questions about everything.
“So when I turned fifteen, along with several other children from the Pack, we were sent to different Packs to keep watch for the chosen one.” She explained, a look of guilt flashed through her eyes.
It turns out she managed to get by hiding her real smell and wearing clothes already worn by other Omegas to have their smell and it wasn’t that difficult because not so much attention was placed on them.
“Why didn’t you say anything sooner?” I asked, if she had known, why didn’t she say anything?
She shook her head, “I wasn’t sure and I suspected because of the resemblance p>
I looked at Kieran who, “resemblance?” I asked, “who are you talking about p>
She paused again, and if I wasn’t trying to mentally prepare for what she was about to say, I’d rip the words out of her mouth. The frown on Kieran’s face mirrored mine and if Nora wasn’t already trembling, I’m sure the look in Kieran’s eyes would’ve sent her to her knees.
“Your Dad.” She said finally, her voice barely above a whisper.
I gasped lightly, my eyes burning from holding my tears for so long and Kieran moved towards me, wrapping his arms around me as I let the tears fall freely. He murmured reassuring words in my ears, his hand rubbing my back in a soothing
manner.
After what seemed like forever, I turned to face Nora. “I-is m-my…is he a-alive?” “I’m sorry Luna, he didn’t make it p>
Biting my lips to stop myself from crying again, asked about my
mom. I wasn’t sure I wanted to know
the answer…a part of me already knew the answer though. Wolves
rarely survive the death of their mates, and even with their healing ability, that was a pain one couldn’t recover from.
But no amount of preparation could prepare me for her response.
“Yes, Luna.” She replied.
A wave of excitement, fear, worry pass through me all at once. If she was alive, would she want me? What if she immediately hates me because I reminded her of her mate…my Dad?
“But she is in a bad condition…since Alpha Matthew died. No one has been able
to heal her.” She said, “We’re hoping you can heal her p>
A loud ringing went off in my ear,
and overwhelming feeling I couldn’t explain enveloped me. But at the same time, I felt relieved. What if…just what if this was some sort of second chance by the moon goddess to finally get to know my biological mother.
“Please Luna, you have to heal her.” Nora begged, her eyes burning with tears.
My chest tightened at how desperate she sounded my mom must be loved.” I thought.
At Kieran’s command, Dylan helped her up and she wiped her tears with the back of her hand.
“How do we know she’s not lying?” Lylah asked me, “what if it’s just a plan to distract us from the problem on ground p>
Kieran was still asking her some questions which she was responding to and with each one, she became more confident. Still not paying attention, I mind-linked Allie to come along with a knife and the confusion in her voice when she asked why was evident.
Not long after, Allie swung the door open, with Ryder behind her…like I said, attached to each other.
“What are we eating?” She asked, swinging the knife for everyone to see.
“What the fuck are you doing with that?” Kieran growled at her and her head snapped to mine with raised eyebrows. Her actions caused Kieran to look at me.
I shrugged, “I want her to prove that she’s not lying. She would be able to heal a knife wound…only because our claws would be too extreme.” I didn’t add the latter part because I’m certain it’d give Kieran a high blood pressure. “Please tell me you were not planning to use that on yourself?” The said person asked, massaging his temples.
My brows furrowed, “Of course not,” I replied and a sigh left his lips. “I was going to use it on Dylan.” I added, glaring at Dylan
The moment I said that, Nora’s eyes darkened and she threw herself in front of Dylan protectively, her wolf surfacing. “Don’t touch him!” She growled, causing my eyes to widen and Lylah to also push herself forward protectively.
Kieran put his hand in front of me and immediately she bowed her head in submission.
“I’m sorry, Luna.” She cried, falling to her knees.
“She was…oh my gosh! She is his mate!” I squealed internally.
Dylan, who was still processing what just happened, finally snapped out of it. He held her hand, pulling her to his side. There was still a hint of confusion on his face, his eyes glued to her but he sought to protect her.. even though there was nothing to be worried about.
“Okay…maybe there was!” I thought, noticing the look on Ryder and Allie’s faces.
Only when Lylah saw that she wasn’t trying to defy us, did she back down and Kieran’s hand also loosened, understanding the situation.
But that was soon pushed aside as the main reason she was in the office became the main focus. Ryder offered to be the sacrificial wolf.
Even though it already felt like she was telling the truth, our jaws still dropped a few minutes later when the cut on Ryder’s hand completely disappeared, confirming everything she had said which means…my biological mother was really still alive.
My emotions were a mess. One minute I was crying and the next, I was happy and then back to crying. And I couldn’t blame it on my pregnancy…my greatest wish of knowing who my birth mom is, was so close to becoming fulfilled. And my head turned to Kieran, waiting to hear his decision.
