As Yelena sat down, Bella, perched nearby, shot a sour glance at the scene.
Bella had never seen Donna make anything by herself. In their household, meals were always prepared by servants, meticulously prepared and served without Donna lifting a finger. Donna had always been delicate, her frailty a point of constant concern. Her husband, Callum, ever the protective figure, had forbidden her from entering the kitchen, fearing even the slightest exertion would take a toll on her health.
Bella crossed her arms and said with pointed sarcasm, “Yelena, you should start eating. Don’t waste Mom’s effort. You know she’s not well, yet she insisted on making ravioli—just for you.” The air thickened as Bella’s words, dripping with jealousy, lingered.
Yelena ignored Bella entirely and turned her attention to her mother. Since her return, she’d noticed signs of Donna’s declining health—subtle yet undeniable.
Donna’s pallor, the slight yet constant trembling in her hands, and her overall fragility had seemed like the result of stress, but now Yelena suspected something deeper.
Gently, she reached out and placed her fingers on Donna’s wrist, feeling for a pulse.
Her brows furrowed further as realization dawned. The issue was more severe than she’d thought.
Donna, sensing her daughter’s worry, patted Yelena’s hand with a tender smile.
“Yelena, do you know anything about medicine?” Donna asked, her voice tinged with curiosity.
Yelena nodded slightly. “I know a bit.” Her tone remained casual, but her focus was sharp as she studied Donna. “Mom, your condition isn’t looking good. It’s constantly weakening your system and making you overly sensitive to the cold. You need to stay warm and start proper treatment immediately. I’ll write you a prescription later p>
Donna’s eyes sparkled with emotion, a blend of relief and admiration softening her features. “Oh, my daughter’s truly incredible,” she murmured, her voice trembling with heartfelt conviction. There wasn’t a trace of doubt in her belief.

Bella let out a short, derisive laugh, shaking her head with exaggerated disbelief.
Her eyes flickered with scorn as she watched Yelena, as if waiting for her to fail.
