Everything she does is with that goal in mind—whether it’s studying, eating, or daily habits. When she was younger, she used to take over an hour to finish a meal. Her brother then told her that surgeons don’t have the luxury of eating slowly. If she didn’t finish in time, she’d have to rush off to surgery, leaving hunger behind as the least of her worries. If she didn’t maintain her strength, she couldn’t hold the scalpel steady, and if something went wrong, she would be held accountable to both the patient and their family.

Just then, he felt a gaze on him and turned his head. There, standing a little distance away, was a young woman—Ellen. Her eyes were fixed on him.
