Bella had expected Jarvis to ask that question. He was always so easy to manipulate, and she had her excuses lined up, confident that he would surely forgive her.
“Jarvis, you think I crossed the line this time, don’t you?” Tears welled up in Bella’s eyes, ready to spill over as if she might burst into tears at any second.
Jarvis was seething with anger, yet the sight of Bella in distress awakened a powerful desire to protect her. At that moment, his fury dissolved into a profound sense of heartache.

“Are you disappointed in me? Jarvis, I’m just as disappointed in myself. And I’m really scared. After all these years with the Harris family, they’re now throwing me aside like trash. Jarvis’ heart tightened as he watched the woman he loved breaking down. He quickly stepped in to wipe her tears away.
Seizing the moment, Bella threw herself into Jarvis’ arms and clung to him, sobbing uncontrollably.
