“Yelena, focus on your work,” Lynn chided before retreating to her office.
The rest of the staff were left puzzled by the mildness of Lynn’s response. “Why had Lynn let Yelena off the hook so easily?” It hinted that perhaps Yelena’s background was more complex than they understood.
The others quickly dispersed, eager to avoid further entanglement or adding to Yelena’s troubles.
Madonna, however, was not ready to drop the issue, but Bella intervened.
“Bella, why are you holding me back?” Madonna asked, visibly irritated.
Bella pulled her aside and whispered, “Drop it. You know about Yelena’s connections. My brother is quite fond of her right now. If he hears you’ve been antagonizing her at work, it won’t reflect well on you. Be more careful p>
Reluctantly, Madonna conceded and said, “Fine, I understand.” With a huff, Madonna gathered the scattered files from the floor, shooting a menacing look at Tessa as she said, “You just wait p>
Tessa’s face turned pale, but she remained silent, pressing her lips together.
When lunchtime arrived, Tessa turned to Yelena and offered, “Come on, lunch is on me today p>
