Yelena’s instincts kicked in as the elevator jolted sharply. In a flash, she pressed every floor button, hoping to slow the descent. Tessa and the other girl in the elevator gasped in surprise, frozen in shock. Before they could react further, the lights flickered and went out, leaving the small space engulfed in darkness.
The elevator plummeted rapidly, and Tessa’s breath hitched as she bit down on her lip, trembling too much to speak.
Suddenly, the elevator came to a jolting stop.
Yelena frantically pressed the button to open the doors, but there was no response.
“Don’t panic,” Yelena urged calmly. “Let’s call the hotel staff first p>
Tessa was on the verge of panic, and had it not been for Yelena’s calm demeanor, she might have already broken down in tears. What was going on today? Why did it feel like one mishap followed another?
Fortunately, even though the elevator lights had failed, the communication system was still operational. Yelena managed to contact the hotel staff, who assured them that help was on the way.
“Don’t worry. They’re—” Before Yelena could finish, she heard rapid breathing close by.
Realizing something was amiss, Yelena quickly used her phone’s flashlight and discovered the girl next to Tessa lying on the floor, breathing heavily.

Yelena knelt beside the girl and asked, “Do you have any medication with you p>
The girl was conscious but suffering from claustrophobia. She had been nervous about taking the elevator, but could cope as long as the lights were on. However, the sudden darkness combined with the elevator’s drop had triggered her asthma.
The girl shook her head, gasping. “I ran out. I used the last of it today p>
She explained that she was supposed to meet her mother at the hotel, who had obtained some specially formulated asthma medication for her from abroad. The girl was allergic to a common ingredient in standard asthma medications, so hers needed to be custom-made. But she hadn’t met up with her mother before the incident.

Shortly after, rescuers arrived, opened the elevator doors, and freed them from their confinement. “Are you all okay p>

“It’s odd, though. Our elevator was just maintained a few days ago. There shouldn’t have been any problems.” Yelena listened to the staff member’s words, her mind racing.
However, now wasn’t the time to ponder the elevator’s malfunction. Yelena and Tessa bid farewell to the girl and hurried to their meeting with Frieda.
Unfortunately, they were late and Frieda had already left. “Yelena, what do we do now?” Tessa’s brows knitted in frustration.
“Why is today so unlucky? First, I had an upset stomach, and then the elevator broke down p>
