John gazed back at Austin, his face wearing an innocent expression, silently arguing that he was asking on Austin’s behalf.

Before Austin could respond, John interrupted, “Yes, he—” He intended to reveal that Austin missed Yelena so much it made his heart ache. But Austin cut him off with a sharp glance before John could finish. Austin preferred not to have John interfering in his personal affairs.
John let out an awkward laugh, sensing Austin’s murderous glare. He figured he should leave quickly before Austin’s wrath turned his way. “I’ll go visit your mother.” With that, John quickly turned away.
