Monica felt a growing discomfort as she watched Yelena and Maggie happily chat away. She immediately wheeled her chair over, forcing a smile as she gazed at Lena in Maggie’s arms. She reached out to touch Lena and said, “Wow, what a cute kitty p>

“Don’t touch her p>
Yelena and Maggie spoke almost in unison, but Monica appeared not to hear them. Ignoring their warnings, she reached out and stroked Lena’s head.
At that moment, Lena seemed provoked. With a sudden leap, she sprang from Maggie’s arm, extending her claws and scratching Monica’s hand.
“Ouch! That hurt!” Monica looked down to see the deep scratch Lena had left on the back of her hand, the wound already beginning to bleed.
“I’m so sorry, Monica. Lena is just a little shy. I’m sure she didn’t mean to do that,” Maggie quickly apologized.
Monica was furious. She felt like strangling the cat, but masked her rage, knowing she couldn’t let Maggie see that side of her.
With a forced smile, Monica said, “It’s alright. It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have touched her without her permission p>
Austin had just finished a work-related call and was descending from his study when he noticed Monica’s injured hand.
“What happened?” Austin asked, concern evident in his voice.
Tears filled Monica’s slightly red eyes. She managed a smile and responded calmly, “I’m okay. It was just a little accident with the kitten. It scratched me. But really, I’m fine. Don’t blame the little one p>

Yelena stood nearby, at a loss for words.
What was Monica doing? If she truly didn’t blame Lena, she wouldn’t have spoken in such a dubious way. Clearly, Monica’s words were intentional, subtly trying to provoke Austin into disciplining Lena.
“Lena scratched you?” Austin paused before offering a solution. “Here’s the plan. Stay in your room and don’t leave. Stay away from her, and you won’t get hurt again p>
Monica was shocked. She had so much to say, but now the words were stuck in her throat. She couldn’t speak them, yet she couldn’t keep them inside either. Frustration built within her, threatening to spill over.
Austin paused before adding, “Lena has been vaccinated and dewormed recently, so there’s no severe risk. However, if it concerns you, I can arrange for our family doctor to give you a rabies shot p>
Monica believed a rabies vaccination was necessary, but not immediately. If she agreed to a rabies shot in front of Austin, wouldn’t it make him think she didn’t trust him?
With a reassuring smile, Monica said, “No need. I trust you p>
Yelena interjected, “This is no joking matter. Trust has nothing to do with whether you get a rabies shot. You seem frightened. It’s better to get that rabies shot p>

Yelena shrugged and didn’t push the issue further. It wasn’t her concern what happened to Monica.
