“What promise?” Cayson whispered, leaning toward Callum. They had more or less heard of that family in Kheley. Though they had never met, they exchanged gifts every year. They had been in contact for many years, and Cayson regarded them as old friends of his late grandfather’s and nothing more.
However, now that they were mentioning some agreement, Cayson felt a sense of unease.
Callum’s frown deepened at the mention of Elianna’s words. His children might be oblivious to the agreement, but Callum knew exactly what this was about. He wasn’t sure of the situation there. If that family had a daughter, Cayson or Jarvis could marry her to honor the agreement.
But what if they had a son instead?

He preferred to endure suffering himself rather than allowing others to experience it.
