Yelena seized the opening. She carefully pushed the window wider, held her breath, and slipped inside.
Austin followed.
The warehouse was dim, the air thick with the scent of mold and rust. Moving cautiously, they followed the faint light filtering through cracks in the walls.
It didn’t take long for Yelena to find Tessa. She was tied to a pillar, her mouth covered with tape, her eyes wide with terror and exhaustion. The moment she saw Yelena, relief flooded her gaze, quickly followed by tears spilling down her cheeks.
Yelena rushed forward, pulling a small knife from her boot to cut the ropes and peel the tape from her lips.
Tessa gasped for air, her voice trembling. “Yelena… I was so scared.” Tessa had no clue what was going on. She didn’t recognize these people, yet they had abducted her.
The kidnappers had worn black hoods, their faces obscured.
Tessa assumed Lowe or Lily had sent them, so she called out their names, pleading that she would never cross them again and begging to be released.
But her kidnappers showed no reaction to either name, leaving her utterly confused.
Tessa was paralyzed with fear, convinced she was about to die without even knowing why.
When Tessa saw Yelena, a wave of relief washed over her as if a heavy weight had been lifted from her chest.
“Don’t worry, Tessa. We’re getting you out of here,” Yelena reassured her, hoisting Tessa onto her back.
Outside, Austin’s men created another distraction. John also picked up a rock and smashed the window of a parked car, likely one of the kidnappers’ vehicles.
The shattering glass sent the guards scrambling toward the sound. Using the chaos to his advantage, John slipped through the warehouse’s main entrance.
By then, Yelena and Austin had already reached the opposite side, helping Tessa toward an escape route. Austin spotted John and signaled him over.
