She hadn’t planned on involving Bella, but now that Bella had tried to threaten her, why not take advantage of the situation to strike back?
Her thoughts were interrupted by the sudden stir of activity near the entrance.
Before Monica could react, two police officers appeared before her.
“Are you Monica Mitchell?” one asked, his tone formal.
Monica’s throat constricted. Her body tensed, and without thinking, she took a step backward.
A tense silence fell over the room. Every guest turned their gaze toward her. Monica’s heart pounded, panic creeping up her spine as she searched desperately for a way out of this situation.
“Miss Mitchell, you’re suspected of involvement in a kidnapping case. Please come with us for questioning,” the officer stated, his voice carrying the weight of an accusation.
The moment the words left his mouth, the atmosphere in the room shifted. The guests’ eyes turned cold, and a few young men who had been preparing to approach Monica now recoiled, distancing themselves as though she were some sort of plague.
Monica’s brow furrowed, and though her mind raced, she refused to show weakness.
She hadn’t expected Yelena to have solid evidence, and she was certain the woman only had suspicions.
