Chapter 16:

Davin’s hand shot out, stopping Carlee before she could even reach Wyatt. Wyatt wasted no time, already carrying Amelia into the elevator.

When the doors slid shut, Carlee’s eyes shimmered with tears. Everything felt as though it was collapsing around her. Davin, perhaps moved by the sadness etched across her face, softened his tone as he said, “There’s no need to worry. Mr. Stewart will take care of Miss Flynn p>

“I don’t need him to take care of her. I can watch over my own friend!” Carlee snapped, her voice sharp even though she knew that Davin worked for a powerful man.

Davin shrugged off her words without a second thought. After releasing Carlee, he turned to wait for the elevator to follow Wyatt.

In the underground parking lot, Davin arrived in time to see Wyatt carefully settle Amelia inside his car. He couldn’t hide his surprise. For five years, Davin had worked with Wyatt and understood better than most that the man had a notorious obsession with cleanliness. Hardly anyone, no matter how familiar, had ever ridden in Wyatt’s car—much less someone who was drunk.

Yet Amelia, who was drunk, had not only gotten into Wyatt’s car but was also nestled in his arms now. She hadn’t been this drunk in a long while. Her head throbbed, and the world spun, but a clean, cool scent drifted over her and helped her relax, drawing her closer to it.

Looking down, Wyatt noticed how Amelia clung to him. A flash of surprise flickered in his eyes, replaced almost instantly by a gentleness.

Davin, watching the scene as he got closer, couldn’t hide his astonishment at Wyatt’s sudden tenderness. Still, he steadied himself and said, “Mr. Stewart, Mr. Jenkins is still waiting for you in the private room. Should I p>

“Call Marc. Tell him to meet me at Hillside Villa quickly,” Wyatt said before Davin could finish, waving for the driver to start the car.

That instruction sent a jolt through Davin. He remembered all too well the threats Wyatt had faced in the past. He thought Wyatt was feeling unwell after being drugged or something; that was why he had asked him to call Marc over. Wasting no time, he dialed Marc’s number. “Mr. Chapman, something happened to Mr. Stewart. Head to Hillside Villa now p>

Hillside Villa stretched across a hill on the eastern edge of Kretol, its grounds sprawling far and wide. Automatic gates swung open as Wyatt’s car rolled to a stop at the entrance.

Hearing the car, Kurt Lewis hurried out to greet Wyatt and opened the door. “Mr. Stewart… Who is this young woman p>

Having served the Stewart family for decades, Kurt had practically watched Wyatt grow up. Most people never dared to ask Wyatt personal questions, but Kurt could get away with it every now and then.

Wyatt ignored the question and told Kurt to have the staff prepare the east master bedroom. Kurt, thrilled by the news, dashed back into the house. He wanted to tell Wyatt’s mother that her son had finally brought someone home and that she no longer needed to worry about his marriage issues.
