Years of living overseas had left Weldon with a habit of going to a bar whenever he felt low — a habit he hadn’t shaken even after coming back to the country.
Shepard had only come along because Weldon insisted.
The bass was pounding so loudly that Shepard couldn’t make out what Weldon was saying until he followed the direction of his hand.
He recognized Wyatt immediately.
Then he noticed the woman Wyatt was carrying.
Shepard shot to his feet in shock, his expression changing in an instant.
Though the woman was wrapped tightly in Wyatt’s coat, hiding her face, Shepard was certain she wasn’t Amelia.

Even though Amelia hadn’t formally acknowledged the Chadwick family yet, Shepard already thought of her as his sister. In that moment, fury lit in his chest.
Weldon, tipsy only a moment ago, snapped into sobriety and followed Shepard.
Nora had reached her limit, and Wyatt brought her to the nearest hotel.
Weldon watched as Wyatt carried the woman inside, his gaze burning. “He’s cheating on Amelia?” he spat. “Does he think the Chadwicks won’t stand up for her? This is outrageous p>
“Don’t jump to conclusions. We don’t know the full story yet,” Shepard said.
They stayed outside the hotel, waiting the entire night.
At first, Shepard had planned to confront Wyatt as soon as he walked out.
But he hadn’t expected Wyatt to stay in the hotel the entire night.
Wyatt didn’t return all night, and Amelia barely slept.
She called his number again and again, but he never answered.
The moment she heard a knock, Amelia’s eyes flew open. She hurried to the door.
“What took you so long? I— what are you two doing here p>
Seeing Shepard and Weldon standing outside, Amelia blinked in confusion. Something about their expressions made her uneasy; she sensed they were holding something back, something heated.
“Is… Mr. Chadwick alright?” she asked.
Shepard hesitated when he heard that.
Realizing her assumption, he quickly said, “Dad’s fine. I actually came to find Wyatt. Is he here p>
Because the hotel Wyatt had gone to had a second exit, Shepard couldn’t be sure if he had already left. That was why he had come here.
“He went out last night and hasn’t come back. If you need me to tell him something, I can,” Amelia said.
“Did he say where he was going?” Shepard’s tone sharpened.
Amelia grew even more confused by his demeanor.
“Shepard, just tell her already.” Weldon turned to Amelia. “Last night, we saw Wyatt carrying a woman into a hotel p>
A woman?
Could it be Nora?
The first thing that crossed Amelia’s mind was that something serious had happened.
Nora had spent the entire night submerged in icy water in the bathroom, while Wyatt stayed just outside the door.

After hearing nothing from the bathroom for a long while, Wyatt knocked on the door.
He was about to call someone to break it open when the door finally swung open.
Wrapped in a robe, Nora stepped out, trembling.

She barely had the strength to stand. As she staggered, Wyatt instinctively reached out and steadied her.
Right then, the door to the room flew open from the hallway.
Seeing Nora, dripping wet and wrapped in a bathrobe in Wyatt’s arms, Amelia froze.
Wyatt, hearing the door open, thought Sean had come. His expression was sharp with hostility.

She turned her back to him and walked away.
Wyatt turned to Shepard and Weldon, his voice tight. “What are you doing here p>
“Oh? Are you mad at us for exposing your secret?” Shepard said.
Wyatt’s frown deepened. “What the hell are you talking about? Nora and I are p>
“I don’t care about your relationship with this woman,” Shepard snapped. “Just stay away from my sister from now on, or I won’t let you off p>
As Shepard and Weldon left, Wyatt ran a hand over his brow, exhaling in frustration.
Nora, heavy with guilt, murmured, “Wyatt… I didn’t mean to cause you trouble p>
“I’ll explain things to Amelia later. For now, just tell me — what happened last night p>
