Chapter 577
Chapter 577:
At this moment, Amelia had no option but to agree to let Wyatt carry her.
With Amelia securely perched on his back, Wyatt swiftly navigated further into the dense forest.
Despite feeling lightheaded from blood loss, his strides remained firm and rapid.
The woods buzzed with sounds from animals, even in the early hours, yet Amelia, nestled against Wyatt, felt no fear.
Her ears stayed sharp, listening for the pursuers, and only when their footsteps grew faint did she exhale in relief, murmuring into Wyatt’s ear,
“It seems they didn’t catch up p>
At her words, the tension in Wyatt’s frame began to ease.
Noticing his steps slowing, Amelia lightly patted his shoulder and said,
“I can walk on my own now p>
Fatigued, Wyatt gently lowered her to the ground.

Once she stood steady, he grasped her hand, saying softly,
“If you feel off at all, let me know instantly p>
Amelia didn’t say anything but squeezed his hand firmly in response.
After ten more minutes of walking, Amelia halted Wyatt, pointing in a direction and saying,
“Look over there p>
Following her gaze, Wyatt saw a small cabin tucked beneath a towering tree, its branches draping over the place, nearly hiding it from view unless closely inspected.
With dawn still at least two hours away, they both desperately needed rest to recover their strength.
Sharing a silent look, they moved toward the cabin without hesitation.
At the door, Wyatt turned to Amelia and said,
“I’ll check inside first. Stay here p>
The door was closed, and uncertain of what lay within, Wyatt wanted to check first.
“Alright, be careful,” Amelia agreed without protest.
Wyatt gave a slight nod, then eased the unlocked door open, which creaked loudly in the quiet night.
Inside, he found a simple wooden bed and some basic cooking utensils.
After a thorough inspection, he deduced it was likely a ranger’s outpost.
Once certain it was safe, he beckoned Amelia inside.
After Amelia entered, Wyatt secured the door and pushed a table against it for added protection.
In the darkness, Amelia carefully searched the cabin, eventually discovering a flashlight and some useful ointment in a corner.
Delighted by the discovery of the ointment, she eagerly reached for the flashlight, wanting to tend to Wyatt’s wounds.
Wyatt quickly intervened, saying,
“Don’t switch it on p>
He feared the beam would be too conspicuous in the dark, potentially drawing the attention of their pursuers.
Amelia understood his concern, but his injuries were serious.
“Your wounds need to be tended to. I’ll be quick!” she said.
With that, she turned on the flashlight.
As she pushed up Wyatt’s sleeve, she inhaled sharply at the sight of the two wounds, tears welling in her eyes.
Noticing her distress, Wyatt downplayed it, saying,
“It’s nothing; the wounds will heal in a couple of days p>
Without a word, Amelia retrieved the ointment.
As she treated his injuries, Wyatt suppressed a wince.
Noticing that, Amelia anxiously said,
“Am I hurting you? I’ll be more gentle p>
She cautiously applied the ointment to both wounds.
Searching the cabin afterward, she found no bandages, so she took Wyatt’s knife and sliced a strip from the edge of her garment.
Using the cloth, she meticulously wrapped his injuries, exhaling deeply once finished.
“Lean on me to rest for a while; we will move at dawn,” Wyatt said.
He settled against the wall on the wooden bed, drawing Amelia into his arms.
Though Amelia doubted she could fall asleep, Wyatt’s warm embrace quickly lulled her into slumber.
As her breaths grew even, Wyatt shifted slightly to make her sleep more comfortably.
In the darkness, he held her with one arm, his other hand gripping a knife, eyes locked on the door blocked by the table.
At the first hint of dawn’s light in the cabin, Wyatt roused Amelia, urgency in his voice.
“Amelia, they’re near. We have to leave now p>
His words instantly cleared her grogginess.
Initially, Wyatt had aimed to flee deeper into the woods with Amelia, but the sound of approaching steps closed in fast.
He realized daylight would hinder their escape. No matter which direction they took, those people would soon catch up with them.
A hiding place was their best chance. Scanning the area, his gaze settled on the towering tree above the cabin.
“Amelia, give me your hand p>
