When Monroe spoke up, Amelia’s hands fell still. She turned to face him. He unlocked his phone, scrolled through his photo album, and held out the screen for her to see. The pictures left no doubt in Amelia’s mind—the jewelry in the photos was indeed Katrina’s.
Time had changed their owner, though. After holding onto them for years, Katrina had gifted the collection to Laura, trusting her to watch over Amelia in her absence. Back in those difficult days, when illness weighed heavily on Katrina, Laura had treated Amelia well. But Amelia had never imagined Laura would eventually sell the jewelry, especially since Katrina had truly believed Laura was her friend.

Sending Dayna to Amelia had been a desperate move. Laura had done it to keep Dayna calm and to make sure the baby inside her was safe. Although she didn’t like Dayna, she was concerned about the baby. After all, the baby was her grandchild.
Jaxton seemed to have already seen through her thoughts. He didn’t even look surprised when she gave her answer. He drew in a breath, ready to respond, when the hospital door swung open so abruptly it startled everyone in the room.
Laura opened her mouth, ready to scold whoever had barged in, but before she could utter a word, harsh beams of light cut through the air, forcing her to shield her eyes. The hospital room quickly became crowded as a swarm of reporters spilled inside, surrounding Laura and Jaxton, who was lying in bed.
“Mrs. Morrison, did your son break off the engagement with Ms. Amelia Flynn because Ms. Dayna Flynn is pregnant with his child p>
“Mr. Morrison, are there any wedding plans now that Ms. Dayna Flynn is having your child p>

The questions rained down with hardly a pause for breath. Laura’s heart hammered in her chest as she heard Dayna’s pregnancy brought up. Still, she retorted, “You must be mistaken. There’s no pregnancy. I have no idea what you’re talking about. I p>
Before she could finish, a reporter held up a video. It showed Dayna in a loose dress at Kretol City Hospital’s gynecology department, not even wearing a mask. As she left the hospital, she was holding an ultrasound report, which the camera captured clearly. Right then, Laura felt an urge to strangle Dayna. Still, she forced herself to stand her ground, determined to convince the press she knew nothing about the situation.
Laura had barely begun to steer the conversation away when Santos made his entrance. The moment he arrived, the reporters aimed every microphone his way. News of Dayna’s pregnancy had drawn him straight to the hospital.
