Chapter 140:

Wyatt noticed beads of sweat on Amelia’s forehead beneath the lamp. Her skin looked nearly colorless, drained of its usual glow.

He called her name, and she stirred, her eyes opening only halfway. Curling in on herself, she winced as a sharp pain shot through her stomach. Instantly, she understood her monthly period had begun.

Ever since the incident when she almost drowned, she had suffered terrible pain during her period.

She caught Wyatt watching her, worry etched across his features. With effort, she pushed a smile past the discomfort and managed to say, “It’s really nothing. I’ll feel better after a couple of days, so don’t worry p>

She then pulled the covers aside and dragged herself out of bed, moving slowly toward the bathroom. Sweat had soaked through her pajamas, making the fabric cling to her skin.

Since she was already awake, Amelia figured she might as well take a shower. Wyatt, though clueless about most things concerning the menstrual cycle, could easily tell something was wrong with her condition. Without a second thought, he grabbed his phone and dialed Marc’s number.

Marc made sure his phone never went dead, silent, or switched off, considering he was a doctor. The ringing jolted him awake. He reached for it, half expecting news from the hospital. When he caught the caller ID, annoyance flared. “Seriously? Do you have any idea what hour it is? Don’t I ever get to sleep p>

Wyatt ignored the outburst and got straight to the point. “Get to Hillside Villa right now. I’ll invest an extra fifty million in your project p>

All at once, Marc’s irritation melted away. He quickly replied, “Give me ten minutes. I’m on my way p>

Living halfway up the slope meant Marc could reach Hillside Villa in minutes. By the time Amelia came out of the bathroom dressed in clean clothes, Kurt’s voice echoed from the front door. “Mr. Stewart, Dr. Chapman is here p>

The moment she realized Wyatt had summoned Marc for her, shock swept through her. Calling in someone like Marc over menstrual cramps? The absurdity left her at a loss for words.

This was so embarrassing. Still, with Marc already in the house, she could only steel herself and go to see him.

Marc had shown up in his sleepwear, which said plenty about how quickly he’d dropped everything. Once he realized Wyatt had brought him in for something so minor, his patience snapped. “When will you stop torturing me like this?” Even so, he grabbed some painkillers for Amelia and went through the motions of a checkup.

At first, he suspected Wyatt was just messing with him, but after his examination, his whole attitude shifted. Dropping his voice, he leaned toward Wyatt. “This isn’t my field. I’ll get you in touch with someone skilled in this. You can let Amelia get examined again tomorrow p>

“All right. Just tell them to come straight to Hillside Villa,” Wyatt replied.

Wyatt said nothing more in front of Amelia, but after he escorted Marc out, he turned back, wanting him to elaborate on Amelia’s situation.

Marc’s earlier annoyance faded into deep concern as he shared his thoughts. “If I’m right about what I found, she may have trouble having children in the future p>

Wyatt’s face turned grim.

Breaking the heavy silence, his words came out barely above a whisper. “Don’t mention any of this to her p>

“Wyatt, you’re the heir to the Stewart family. If she can’t give you kids, then—” Marc had known Wyatt for ages, and he could see plain as day how much Amelia mattered to him. That was the only reason he’d held back from bringing this up sooner. The Stewart family would be thrown into chaos tonight otherwise.

Marc wanted to continue, but the warning in Wyatt’s stare stopped him cold. After a pause, he said, “All right, I get it. I know what to do. But let’s have Gabby help her recuperate. I’ll make sure Gabby doesn’t p>

He stopped mid-sentence, seeing Wyatt already walking away. Turning his head, Marc spotted Amelia in the doorway, looking pale as a ghost.
