“Since when did my personal choices become your business, Julius?” Wyatt interjected.
His tone lost its usual politeness, cutting straight through the air and leaving Julius feeling embarrassed. Around the table, the shareholders who had prepared to jump in hesitated. As a member of the Stewart family, Julius expected a certain respect. If Wyatt could put him in his place, there was little hope for those without family ties to the Stewart family.
Despite the public dressing-down, Julius tried to look unbothered. Conroy gave him a subtle nod, so he replied, “Everything I say is for your own good. The news of the matter has taken a toll on the Stewart Group’s shares p>
“Stock prices go up and down all the time. What makes you think this drop is caused by the news?” Wyatt said.
He did not let Julius get a word in before continuing, “If you really care about the company, why pass off already secured projects to the Astleys in secret p>
That comment hit its mark. The Astley family was Julius’ in-laws’ family, and Wyatt’s words made every other shareholder turn their attention to Julius. Even Conroy’s face soured as he turned toward him.
Julius felt a bead of sweat form. Fear flickered in his gaze as he wondered how Wyatt had found out about the matter.
“Don’t you think that is out of line, Julius? Helping your in-laws is one thing, but turning company projects into family favors is too much,” said a man with thick glasses.
The man was Erik Stewart. He belonged to a different branch of the Stewart family and had inherited a slender one percent of the Stewart Group’s shares from his grandfather. Visits to the company were rare for him, but when his grandfather’s health began to fail, it was Wyatt who sent Marc to treat him. So, hearing Julius confront Wyatt, he stepped forward to stand up for him without a second thought.

The rest of the shareholders had kept quiet, no doubt remembering Julius’ ties to the Stewart family. Their silence broke only after Erik had spoken, and then the complaints spilled out.
Wyatt listened in silence as the accusations toward Julius filled the room. When the noise died down, he turned to those shareholders seated near Julius. “There are those among you who have given cushy jobs to your own nephews, and others who’ve funneled business to relatives’ companies p>
Each person called out began shifting uncomfortably in their seat, while Conroy realized that, aside from Erik, Wyatt had leverage over every shareholder. Confidence drained from the room. Soon, shame and guilt left the shareholders staring at their shoes.

After speaking, they started to leave the meeting room. Soon, the room was emptied of all but those close to the Stewart family. Conroy sat watching the last few people file out, his gaze dark.
