“I know all about the money you funneled to Uncle Barton behind my father’s back, not to mention the family jewels you stole for him. Are you sure you still see my father as your son?” Amelia interjected.

Seeing Ricky and Janessa stare at her in disbelief, Lainey lunged at Amelia, arm swinging up in anger. Prepared for anything, Amelia stepped aside in an instant, letting Lainey stumble past and slam her head against the house’s iron gate.

A cry of pain escaped Lainey as she tumbled to the ground. Blood trickled down her forehead. Dazed, she pressed her palm to the wound and then stared at the blood smeared across her skin.

“You brat! How dare you hurt me like this? You’ll pay for this!” she shouted.

“Grandma, I didn’t touch you at all. You came after me,” Amelia replied calmly.

“You… Ricky, are you really going to just watch while she humiliates me like this?” Lainey threw Ricky a glance burning with fury, only to meet eyes as cold as a winter night.

Lainey’s confidence wavered, and her injury slipped her mind as she rushed to defend herself, saying, “Don’t believe what she said, Ricky. She’s just trying to turn you against me. I p>

“If you don’t believe me, Dad, pick up the phone and ask anyone from Flynn Village. You’ll learn how comfortable Uncle Barton’s family is living right now,” Amelia said.

The people Amelia had arranged had informed her of Lainey’s actions a long while ago.

All the money Lainey got from Ricky and Janessa had gone straight to Barton. Lainey had even managed to sneak into Ricky’s study and unlock his safe when he hadn’t been home.

What had stunned Amelia most was discovering that Lainey knew the safe’s combination, when even she had no idea. As it turned out, Ricky’s birthday unlocked the safe, and Lainey had managed to open it on her very first try.

The more Amelia spoke, the darker Ricky’s expression became. Without saying anything, he pulled out his phone and dialed the head of Flynn Village in Lainey’s presence.

Through the phone, Ricky learned the ugly truth. His good-for-nothing brother had splurged on a car and poured money into fancy renovations recently. When the call ended, he turned to look at Lainey with an icy expression.

Janessa broke the silence. “Lainey, how could you do something like that? You p>

Lainey retorted, her voice sharp, “This is none of your business! Stay out of it!” Then she turned to Ricky. “Ricky, please listen to me. Barton’s got nothing back home; he’s barely scraping by. You, though, have plenty, and lending a hand to him won’t even make a dent in your wealth p>

“So, you are admitting that you stole money from my safe to give to him?” Ricky said.

Lainey responded firmly, “You’re my son. Whatever you own is also mine. So why would you call it stealing p>

Ricky’s breaths came rougher, anger simmering just beneath the surface after he heard her words. He let the tension hang for a moment before saying, “I’ll have someone send you home soon p>

“You would really send me away, Ricky? Are you heartless? How could you do this to me p>

“Keep talking, and I’ll make sure to take back every last thing you gave Barton,” Ricky cut her off.

Lainey stopped talking the moment she heard that.

“Are you happy now?” Ricky glared at Amelia with a dark expression as Lainey was taken away for treatment.

“If you want answers so badly, why don’t you ask her yourself?” Ricky said.

Amelia was here because Michelle had kept her lips sealed about the matter. There was a growing certainty in Amelia’s heart that the Flynns were hiding something, something that was related to her…
