Chapter 289:
“Enough! Not another word!” Laura exploded.
With each of Amelia’s words, Laura’s fury grew until she was yelling like someone pushed past their limit. Only Laura knew the truth—Amelia’s words had struck a nerve buried deep within her. It was not Santos or his feelings for Katrina that had pushed her to do those things. Laura’s alliance with Ricky had everything to do with the bitter jealousy that had long poisoned her heart.
While Laura let her anger boil over, Amelia composed herself and spoke with a clear, cool voice. “You let jealousy push you to turn on your closest friend. That’s what this is all about p>
“You’re blaming me for this, but your father betrayed Katrina first!” Laura exclaimed, her lips curling into a self-satisfied smile. She leaned in a little closer. “I bet you have no idea there’s another company your father owns in Kretol p>
A wave of suspicion washed over Amelia. She wasted no time. “What are you saying p>
“When Katrina was gravely ill, Ricky secretly established a company under my name. After Katrina died, nearly all of the Flynn Group’s major projects quietly ended up in that company p>
The pieces finally fell into place for Amelia. Rocco’s failed search for the missing projects suddenly made sense. The projects hadn’t vanished at all. They had gone to a company registered under Laura’s name.
From Laura’s account, Amelia learned that Ricky had spent years scheming for control of the Flynn Group, but Katrina’s vigilance had kept him from ever succeeding. Katrina’s declining health gave Ricky the opening he had been waiting for. Even so, she ensured Amelia inherited sixty percent of the Flynn Group’s shares. Spurred by these events, Ricky decided to set up a brand-new company with Laura as his partner.
Laura hadn’t come empty-handed. After explaining everything, she handed Amelia a stack of documents. Each page detailed every project and money trail managed by the company Ricky had created. Laura had originally saved these records to protect herself from Ricky, but now she used them as leverage to negotiate with Amelia.
“Amelia, I’ve come clean about everything you asked. Now, let me take Jaxton away,” Laura said.

Amelia answered without hesitation. “I can’t let you do that p>
The shift in Laura’s expression was immediate. Amelia looked at her and continued, “I know exactly what you’re planning. You want to get Jaxton out of Kretol p>
A look of defeat settled over Laura’s features now that her intentions were out in the open. Amelia’s voice was steady and firm. “Don’t forget you haven’t fulfilled your promise to me yet. Once it’s done, I’ll hand Jaxton over to you p>
