Chapter 348:
As soon as Amelia sent the text, Wyatt replied, “Don’t mind him p>
Before she could respond, Jewell’s voice broke the silence. “How’s my father holding up p>
Amelia thought she heard a hint of nervousness in his tone, though she couldn’t be certain.
She relayed Marc’s earlier assessment, then added, “When I left the hospital, he was still unconscious p>
“Did Marc say when he might wake up?” Jewell asked, urgency edging his voice.
That urgency, combined with Della’s earlier comment, only deepened Amelia’s suspicions. It seemed possible that Jewell was somehow connected to Conroy’s fall.
The thought unsettled her. It wasn’t concern for Jewell that made her uneasy, but for Wyatt. Jewell was Wyatt’s father. If Jewell had something to do with what happened to Conroy, Wyatt would inevitably be affected.
Amelia’s tone cooled. “Conroy’s head injury is severe. It’s unclear when he’ll wake up p>
After that, she said nothing more.

Jewell seemed lost in thought and offered no further questions.
The afternoon dragged on without Wyatt’s return. By seven in the evening, Kurt stepped into the living room. “Dinner’s ready, Mrs. Stewart p>
Amelia glanced at Jewell. “Would you like to join us for dinner p>
Jewell avoided her question. “Did Wyatt say when he’ll be back p>
Amelia shook her head.
Noticing how dark it had grown outside, Jewell stood abruptly. “I’ll pass on dinner. I’m heading out. When Wyatt gets back, tell him to find me right away. I need to speak with him urgently p>
With that, he rushed out of Hillside Villa.
Sitting at the dining table, Amelia texted Wyatt, letting him know Jewell had left and asking if he would be home for dinner.
She was willing to wait if he was returning soon.
Perhaps anticipating her question, Wyatt replied quickly. “Eat without me. Don’t wait. Get some rest early. I won’t be home for a while p>
Amelia responded with a simple “OK” and set her phone aside.
At Kretol City Hospital, the crowd that had filled Conroy’s ward earlier had dispersed as night settled in.
Wyatt pulled Doug aside into the quiet corridor.
“What exactly happened to my grandfather?” he asked.
Doug’s eyes flickered with hesitation.
Wyatt waited.
After a moment, Doug seemed to make up his mind and began to speak. Conroy usually took a walk in the garden each morning, but today he had skipped the walk and gone straight to his study.
Just as he reached the study door, he heard sounds from inside and immediately sent Doug away.
Only a select few were ever allowed into Conroy’s study, and Doug understood that the order to leave was intentional. Still, he didn’t go far. He lingered on the landing of the staircase and waited.
Not long after Conroy entered the study, a loud crash sounded. Alarmed, Doug rushed to the study and found Conroy collapsed on the floor while Jewell stood nearby, visibly shaken.
Seeing that, Doug had immediately contacted Marc to treat Conroy.
Wyatt’s expression darkened as Doug finished.
“This situation…” Doug began, uncertain.
“I’ll deal with it,” Wyatt said.
“Then I’ll return to Mr. Stewart’s side to take care of him,” Doug replied.
Having served Conroy for years, he knew the Stewart family’s complexities well and trusted Wyatt’s judgment more than anyone else’s. Reassured by Wyatt’s words, Doug felt at ease.
Around eleven that night, Wyatt finally returned to Hillside Villa.
Despite his effort to be quiet, Amelia stirred and sat up in bed. “You’re back p>
“Did I wake you?” Wyatt asked.
“No, I couldn’t sleep,” she admitted.
With time, she had grown used to Wyatt beside her, and now it was hard for her to sleep alone. Even when she managed to rest, it was light and restless.
As Wyatt lay down next to her, Amelia instinctively curled toward him. He drew her into his arms, and her body relaxed in his hold.
“Your father waited for you all afternoon,” she said. “He seemed on edge. Before he left, he told me to have you meet him the moment you got back. He said it was important. Should you call him p>
“No need for that. I already know what he wants to discuss,” Wyatt replied calmly.
