Chapter 401:
The doctor’s voice was heavy with concern. “Vida has been toiling at grueling tasks for years, and it has taken a severe toll on her health. In this scorching heat, even young people are prone to heatstroke; imagine the strain on someone her age p>
Kamila, standing nearby, spoke up. “Vida is very stubborn. We have asked her to stop working, but she refuses to listen. And today, Wyatt, you just see it all, making it seem like Jewell and I are cruel to her. I wonder if p>
“Shut your mouth!” Wyatt snapped, cutting Kamila off, his eyes blazing.
Jewell, about to speak, caught Wyatt’s fierce glare and fell silent.
At that moment, Vida, resting on the sofa, stirred and opened her eyes. Seeing Wyatt, she blinked in confusion, as if unsure whether she was dreaming. When clarity hit, tears welled up in her weathered eyes, tracing paths down her wrinkled cheeks.
“Wyatt… Is it really you?” Vida’s voice trembled.
She reached out to him instinctively but hesitated, eventually retracting her calloused hand. Wyatt noticed her hesitation and gently clasped her hand in his. “It’s me, Vida p>
“Wyatt, let’s get Vida to take her medicine first,” Amelia said softly, bringing the pills prescribed by the family doctor to Vida’s lips.

Vida recognized Amelia, and panic flickered in her eyes as she tried to sit up. “Mrs. Stewart, please, I can take the pills myself p>
“The doctor said you need rest. Stay still,” Amelia interjected gently but firmly.
Vida complied, easing back onto the sofa. Amelia carefully fed her the pills.
After Vida swallowed the pills and sipped some water, her complexion improved slightly, though she remained frail.
“Vida, how did you end up like this?” Jewell asked.
At his words, Vida’s face paled again. She looked at Jewell, her eyes swirling with complex emotions. She had been with the Stewart family long before Jewell was born, first caring for Polly, then tending to Jewell after his birth when Polly couldn’t manage two children alone.
Jewell was practically raised by Vida. When Jewell and Kamila set up their own home, Vida followed them to this place.
At first, Kamila had treated Vida with respect. But over time, when Vida encouraged Jewell to visit Della and Wyatt, Kamila’s attitude soured, and she began making Vida’s life difficult, hoping she would leave on her own. Unbeknownst to Kamila, Vida had nowhere else to go after dedicating her life to the Stewart family.
Panic filled Kamila’s eyes when she heard Jewell’s question. She was afraid that Vida might reveal the truth. But Vida only glanced at Jewell, then lowered her gaze. “I just got a touch of heatstroke after working under the sun for too long p>
Kamila exhaled quietly, relieved.
Jewell, however, said with a displeased expression, “You’re not young anymore, Vida. Why do you keep pushing yourself so hard? Aren’t you afraid p>
“Vida, would you like to come to Hillside Villa with me?” Wyatt interjected.
