By the time the realization caught up with her, her steps had already carried her into the middle of the spacious living room.
Across the room, her gaze collided with Kyson, seated comfortably nearby.
She froze. Heat crept up the back of her neck as she lowered her eyes and stared at the tips of her shoes.
From the moment she had stepped through the door, Kyson had been quietly watching every flicker of her expression, a restrained smile pulling at the corner of his lips. He closed the book in his hands, rose with unhurried calm, and crossed toward her at an easy pace.

The way Kyson said it made it sound as though Kailey had rushed over just to see him.
Heat bloomed across her cheeks, and she dropped onto the nearby couch with an annoyed little huff. “Don’t talk nonsense. I was just caught off guard—I didn’t realize I was already in the living room when the elevator opened p>
A thoughtful hum slipped from Kyson as he tilted his head slightly. “Then… should we find somewhere else for you to stay p>
“No, there’s really no need.” Kailey waved her hands quickly.
After lining up her shoes neatly inside the cabinet, she wandered back into the room, her gaze drifting across the tasteful decor. “When did you have this place decorated? It looks wonderful—like you actually live here all the time.” In her memory, Kyson had spent most of his recent years abroad, returning only briefly two years earlier.
A faint glint moved through his eyes, and he cleared his throat behind a loose fist. “I had it done during a quieter stretch. I didn’t really expect I’d end up staying p>
A soft murmur of understanding left Kailey’s lips as she nodded, piecing it together. In her eyes, the wealthy simply lived that way—collecting houses the way other people collected souvenirs, buying them on a whim, rarely staying long, sometimes forgetting entire properties existed.
After a few lighthearted exchanges, Kyson guided her through the apartment.
Though the residence stretched wide and elegant, most of its openness flowed into the sun-drenched living room and the glass-lined balcony. Apart from a tidy study and a spacious walk-in closet, only three rooms remained, each tucked conveniently beside the master suite.
Wandering from doorway to doorway, Kailey finally paused and pointed to the room directly across the hall.
“I’ll settle in here, then. Thanks for letting me stay,” she said, dipping into an exaggerated little bow with a playful smile.
A burst of laughter escaped Kyson before he reached out and gently pinched her cheek. “You’re such a silly woman p>
Kailey swatted his hand away with a subtle pout. “Why are you pinching me? You’re the silly one p>
“We’re getting married soon—this place is yours too.” Warm amusement curved his lips, laughter flickering in his eyes. “Even if you demanded the master bedroom, I wouldn’t dare refuse you p>
