All three of them turned. A tall figure in a black trench coat stood a short distance away. His posture was relaxed, yet his presence filled the space. His eyes swept across the scene before settling on Kailey, and for a split second, his throat moved as he swallowed.
He was about to speak when Candice stepped forward and positioned herself between them.
“You’re here.” She smiled brightly and held out the shopping bags. “These are for you. Try them on and see if they fit p>
The closeness. The tone. The way she stood so near — it blurred the boundaries on purpose.
