There was no phone in her hands. The villa offered no way to reach anyone outside. Even the television showed nothing. She had no idea where Lyman had gone, and the only people around her were bodyguards who refused to speak.
Their silence only made her angrier.

The bodyguards didn’t react. They stood there like carved stone.
She sucked in a sharp breath. “Stop following me p>
Without waiting for a response, she rushed upstairs and slammed the bedroom door behind her.
The weight pressing against her chest felt suffocating. If this kept up, she really might lose her mind.
She threw herself onto the bed, flipped over, and screamed into the mattress.
After a moment, she lifted her head and scanned the room. Then she jumped up and started pulling open drawers one by one. Was Lyman hiding something here? Had he stashed her phone somewhere just to toy with her?
She searched every cabinet and corner until there was nothing left to check. Her strength drained away. She slid down against the wall and gripped her head tightly.
A faint noise sounded behind her.
She spun around. Nothing.
Slowly, she lowered her head again. Two seconds passed before a strange awareness crept over her skin. She turned once more.
Her body went still. Then her eyes lit up.
She sprang to her feet, rushed forward, and flung her arms around Kyson’s neck. The force pushed him back two steps, and his hands moved instinctively to her waist. Kailey hooked her legs around him and held on tight.
A quiet laugh left him, and warmth filled his eyes.

Her dress had ridden up at the waist from how she was clinging to him, and to keep her steady, his hands stayed firm at her hips. They stood so close that there wasn’t any space between them.
“I figured it out,” he said, holding her gaze. His voice carried a rough edge. “Candice and Lyman crossed paths more than once overseas. I didn’t think much of it back then. That’s on me. Sorry, sweetheart, for making you wait p>
Her nose stung again. That was just like him — she had dragged him into trouble, yet he was the one apologizing.
