A soft laugh escaped Kailey. “You handle her well too.” Around Kyson, Dagmar looked like a startled deer.
Light conversation carried them outside, and they each got into their own car.

As Kailey reached for the car door, Kyson stepped into her space, leaving her half-blocked with her chin resting lightly against the top of the door. Sunlight caught the smooth, unblemished line of her skin.
Something shifted in Kyson’s gaze, and his throat moved almost imperceptibly.
“Can you set aside some time on January 20th?” he asked.

As she turned and got into the car, she found herself smiling, her thoughts lingering on his expression from just moments ago. She had already settled on a birthday gift for Kyson a few days earlier. She had never prepared something like that before, and hoped everything would turn out well.
Once Dagmar headed off to school, life gradually slipped back into its usual rhythm. Each day kept Kailey busy as she gathered new ideas and searched for inspiration.
Following a meeting, a co-worker, Jennifer Pierce, suddenly spoke up. “There’s a newly built resort in the northern mountains. I’ve heard it’s quite distinctive. Why don’t we go there for a creative retreat p>

“That’s right,” Jennifer said. “With stress levels so high these days, people love getting away into nature. Eco-friendly mountain resorts are especially popular right now. It isn’t open to the public yet, which actually makes it perfect for us p>

No one responded, and one by one, all eyes shifted toward Kailey. As the person in charge of design, handling it naturally fell on her shoulders.
With a slight scrunch of her nose, Kailey said, “I honestly don’t have any connections. Why don’t we skip the semi-ecological option and just go straight for a fully ecological one p>
An awkward round of laughter followed as everyone pretended the suggestion had landed fine.
A light flashed in Zaria’s eyes before she said suddenly, “Let’s go there. Don’t worry about access — I’ll handle it.” Stepping out of the meeting room, she sent a message from her phone.
“Mr. Blake, Kailey wants to take the team to the newly developed mountain resort in the north for a creative retreat, but it isn’t officially open yet. Can you make an exception p>
