“Don’t you remember? You and Olivia told me it was time I grew up.” Kailey ignored the pain, her voice cool and steady. “My life is my own, and I’ll deal with the consequences myself p>
Ryan’s gaze turned to ice. “So you’re really going to go against me p>
“This isn’t about going against you. It’s about realizing that your advice made me see I need to live my own life p>
“Unbelievable.” Ryan’s face went pale. “Just don’t come to regret this.” He yanked his hand away and walked off in anger.
Felicity caught Kailey as she nearly stumbled, then couldn’t hold back and called after him, “What is wrong with you? Just because someone doesn’t live by your rules, they’re automatically wrong? Calling yourself an uncle — you’re more like a total control freak p>

“Felicity, that’s enough.” Kailey tugged gently at her sleeve. “Let’s just leave it p>
Still bristling, Felicity pulled a few exaggerated faces in the direction Ryan had disappeared, then shook her head and muttered, “You’re right to move on from him. He’s got serious problems. He doesn’t want you for himself, but he can’t stand anyone else being close to you. It’s all about control p>

Kailey managed a small smile, turned around, and began rolling the suitcase toward the hotel desk. “I may not care for him that way anymore, but I have to show respect. I’ll pay back every debt I owe him, one way or another.” Her stride was steady, but after only a few steps, her vision blurred and tears splashed down her cheeks. She had never meant for things to end up like this. She had never wanted such a rift with Ryan. Why did everything have to be so difficult?

Kailey simply grinned and pressed her foot on the gas. She remembered the first time she came to Aslesall, how Kyson had taken her to a place with real hometown flavors. Now, she wanted Felicity to try it too.
“Since your boyfriend is a local, I’ll be counting on you for recommendations. Don’t let him slip away, alright?” Felicity said.
