The meeting room was small and dim. As soon as she sat down, Olivia’s eyes locked onto her — a stare that held resentment, anger, and something sharp that was hard to name.
It was obvious that detention had changed her. It had only been a few days, yet Olivia already looked worn down. Her skin had lost its glow, and her frame seemed thinner, almost fragile.
For a while, neither of them spoke.
At last, Kailey broke the silence. “Olivia, if you asked to see me just so I could sit here and look at you, then there’s no point in continuing this p>
Just as she was about to rise, Olivia finally spoke.

A strange smile crept onto Olivia’s face. “So you really don’t know p>
That reaction seemed to satisfy her. Even if Kailey had everything now, she was still kept in the dark like a fool.
Olivia’s cuffed hands trembled slightly. The skin around her eyes turned red from the intensity of her emotions. “I won’t tell you. In this world, only Ryan and I know the truth.” She let out a sharp, unsteady laugh.

Kailey frowned and waited until the laughter faded. “I didn’t come here to dig up secrets. And I’m not interested in whatever you’re hinting at. I never wronged you. Everything that’s happened to you is the result of your own choices.” Whatever reason Ryan had for having his brother adopt her didn’t change the outcome. He raised her. That was the reality. If he hadn’t stepped into her life back then, she might have grown up in an orphanage instead.

“Why should I dig into something that’s already in the past?” Kailey met her gaze calmly.
Olivia’s fingers tightened against the tabletop, her nails pressing hard into her palms. After a long silence, she spoke again, her voice dry and strained. “He had a hidden agenda. And you’re just fine with that? Don’t you want to know the truth p>
It was a secret she had overheard not long ago when Ryan was on the phone. Perhaps even the rest of the Owen family didn’t know. That thought steadied her a little. She drew in a breath and stared at Kailey, watching closely for even the slightest crack in her composure.

“Then what difference does it make?” Kailey shrugged. “If you have something to say, then say it. I’m already here. You won’t get many chances like this again p>
