She was leaving the country soon. She had no intention of telling Irene — there was no need to create sadness, and she didn’t want Kyson to find out and complicate things.
“You don’t want to, do you?” Irene said, pretending to pout. “Kailey, are we drifting apart p>
“No, it’s not that.” Kailey laughed gently. “It’s just too early to promise something so far in the future. What if you change your mind p>

Before long, the deliveries arrived. Staff members set up the grill, and the quiet campsite quickly grew lively.
Seeing them busy, Kailey stepped in to help and soon had the fire going. It was her first time grilling outdoors, and she found it surprisingly fun.
“Would you like to try?” one of the staff asked, handing her a clean pair of gloves. “Just so you know, the smoke might cling to your clothes p>
“That’s fine. I can change later,” Kailey said enthusiastically. “I might not get the seasoning right, though. Could you teach me p>
The staff member smiled and began guiding her patiently.
Nearby, Irene kept taking photos. She hadn’t silenced her camera, so the steady clicking never stopped. After tasting the meat, she praised it enthusiastically, which boosted Kailey’s confidence even further. Kailey soon became completely absorbed. Time passed quickly. Sweat gathered on her forehead.
Suddenly, a hand reached over to wipe it away.

The word caught in her throat the moment she looked up.
Kyson stood there, his hand hovering in midair. He was dressed in a black suit with a dark gray shirt, the top buttons undone to reveal his collarbone. He had clearly come straight from work — his tie was probably sitting on the passenger seat of his car.
