None of the three were particularly large, but at eighteen, Kyson stood before them like an immovable wall. That contrast only seemed to irritate one of them further. He spat to the side and snapped, “You think you’re scary? Once money’s in my hands, it stays there. Understand?” He raised his middle finger at Kyson and signaled the others to leave.
Before anyone could react, Kyson lunged forward, seized the man’s wrist, and wrenched it back in one clean motion. A sharp cry rang out. “It hurts! Let go p>
Kyson showed no panic, a faintly reckless smile pulling at the corners of his lips. “Put the money down p>
When the other two moved to intervene, he dealt with them swiftly and without hesitation. In the end, they dropped the money, threw a few hollow threats over their shoulders, and fled in embarrassment.
Kailey stood frozen through the entire scene, never once having suspected that Kyson could fight like that.

For a split second, something like a smile crossed his face—so brief it almost seemed imagined. Then his tone turned sharp. “Were you out of your mind? They demanded money and you just handed it over? Why didn’t you leave the bike and take a taxi p>
Indignation flared in her chest, and she opened her mouth to protest—but no argument came.
“Forget it.” Kyson glanced upward, his brow drawing together, then tossed his jacket at her. “Get on. If we don’t move, we’ll be soaked p>
That moment stayed etched in Kailey’s memory—the image of Kyson straining to pedal as she rode behind him, clutching his jacket while they cut through rain and rushing wind. Getting drenched had been unavoidable. But the one in front of her had been Kyson. Wrapped in his jacket, she had stayed mostly dry, only the tips of her shoes ending up damp.
A sharp alarm pulled Kailey out of her sleep. She blinked at the ceiling, momentarily unsure of where she was.
Once the haze cleared, she pushed herself upright. Seven o’clock exactly.
Today was her very first day on the job.
She clenched her jaw, summoned her resolve, kicked the quilt aside, and got out of bed.
After getting ready, she headed downstairs to find that Kyson had already set out breakfast.
