In less than half a minute, the front door swung open. Kyson walked straight toward her, slid his phone into his pocket, and lifted her into his arms without hesitation.

She didn’t know how anyone else would have reacted to that, but she felt her heart give in at once. Her arms tightened around him. “Then let’s not waste time. Take me upstairs p>
A faint smile curved at the corner of his mouth. He carried her inside, pushed the bedroom door open with his back, and crossed the room in a few steady steps before setting her down gently on the bed.

“Maybe we should save the trip for something meaningful. An anniversary would make more sense,” she continued.
Kyson chose not to say anything.
“Or we could plan it around a holiday,” she added quickly.
Kyson continued eating as if the conversation didn’t bother him, yet every so often he glanced at her. His meaning was obvious — he was waiting for the answer he wanted.
Her shoulders sagged. “I just took on a new position. If we go somewhere nearby for a couple of days, that’s fine. But ten days? Two weeks? What about my responsibilities p>
The man sitting across from her ran the entire company. She thought he’d at least acknowledge her dedication. But he didn’t.
